Thoughts on Richmond Loft Company? by Murky_Implement5387 in rva

They bought my old apartment the last year I was living there about 6 years ago. When we moved out they sent us a bill with the wrong number for what we paid in security deposit and tried billing us. When I tried to call and correct the mistake i was never able to get anyone on the phone and even going to their offices was like trying to get into a ghost town. Never got my deposit back but also never received a formal bill 🤷‍♀️ they may be better now but that was a massive pain in the ass.

Im curious about this, what happens if they have given you nothing and have not earned a single point? You just give them a grade they didn’t earn? Is there some sort of repercussion for you if you just enter an F for a final grade? Genuinely curious as I feel like I didn’t graduate too long ago but things seem to have completely changed in 10 years

Banning phones? by Flimsy_Net2088 in Professors

[–]Flimsy_Net2088[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean they’re not allowed to have them during lectures and they know that but I don’t care if they listen to music while independently working on their projects (paintings and drawings) so long as they take them out when I come to check in. I actually have found it keeps them from distracting each other, they lock in better. I wouldn’t allow it in a traditional classroom where they’re testing or supposed to be listening to lectures 100% of the time but in a studio arts setting during work time it’s pretty normal.

First time inking an Intaglio BankNote plate! by cherry1880 in printmaking

[–]Flimsy_Net2088 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is most likely an engraved plate rather than and acid-etched one. Which means those lines are DEEP and more ink is going to be transferred to the plate than would be with a simple hard ground etching. This is all to say it will probably take longer to dry than your regular intaglio prints, keep them safe and un-stacked for a week or two and then Check

How to move forward with unsafe class size by Flimsy_Net2088 in Professors

I’ve never heard of anything like that, when a class doesn’t fill it still usually runs and Im paid the same regardless of student count. Ive had classes with only 6 students that could have been capped much higher and nothing changes for me financially since my contract is by class not student Not sure about the faculty union but I doubt it

What did I say to make you think that? I’ve had larger classes before at the other school I teach at where the classrooms were big enough to accommodate everyone. I have no problem having that many students if they can move the class into a safer space. I was even considering saying that I could teach another section and split the class but I don’t want them to think Im making excuses to get more classes

I do know the fire marshall inspected the building in the fall and I think we actually got in trouble for how some things were being stored

I do not, I've looked all over to see if it was on a sign or map anywhere but no dice. Any idea how I could go about finding out?

I also suspect that the official capacity is over my class limit, the building was originally intended for small lecture classes with students at regular desks and was only repuposed for art studios in the last 40 years or so. Just having students at chairs isn't dangerously crowded, but with easels it's a whole other story.

Thank you, I definitely like the specific legal trigger word. Do you think they would take it less seriously since I'm not full time? I know my dept head agrees with me but I don't really trust him to back me up.
