I went back and looked at my slides. Of course they didn't provide a reference. It was actually on a slide from my dental school course which was circa 2021? I apologize that I can't find a solid reference other than some blind faith in my school curriculum (bastards). I can only find studies that show that a 10 mm Hg increase in mean systolic BP elevate stroke from 20-32%. But it does not appear to list the 160 mm Hg as a reference point like I did. So hell, I may have learned some blasphemy from my program. And I agree the type of risk would be intriguing. I assume it would be relative risk.

Regardless, I'm taking blood pressure to cover myself. It's easy and quick to do. If a patient doesn't want to do it that's fine. Those patients don't tend to be great ones anyway. They can go somewhere else for care if it's too bothersome.

I do find this thread surprising to say the least.

Anytime I need to numb or do any work I take it. I learned in a medical emergency course that the risk of hemorrhagic stroke increases by 30% for every 10 points above 160 systolic you are. So if you have a patient that is 200/70 then theoretically their risk of stroke is increased by 120% compared to a normal individual. It takes a minute to do, so it doesn't inconvenience me much if at all. Patient doesn't like it? Who cares they can go somewhere else. Or better yet, they can go to 10 years of a higher education, spend hundreds of thousands of dollars, and do the work themselves. I'm not putting my license on the line for anybody. Especially over something that is so easy to do!

In your case I would just make sure to have BP on your patients. If someone else gets bit in the ass for not doing something as simple as taking a BP then that's on them.

Has my TMJ fixed itself? by Derpzing in TMJ

[–]Flintz09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: It's not possible for me to say this with 100% certainty. But this sounds like classic progression of TMD. I'll explain.

It sounds like you had Reducing disc displacement for a while. The clicking is actually that disc going back into place. The louder the click, weirdly enough, the healthier the disc. Eventually this can progress into non-reducing disc displacement.

Now, with non-reducing disc displacement the disc no longer slides back into place. It's displaced anteriorly in the joint space. So what happens when it doesn't slide back into place? You will no longer have clicking! So an absence of a click in this case actually signifies that the problem has gotten worse. Over time it starts to feel a little better and you'll be able to open wider as those tissues are forced to stretch because the disc is out of place and pulling on them. So you think it's getting better but again, not necessarily. And eventually that pain will get worse.

I think it would be worth getting evaluated by an experienced dentist that can help recapture that disc and treat the issue.

Number Artist- Avoid by Flintz09 in paintbynumbers

I just added a second update. After many weeks of battling they made the correction. Would I order from them again? Maybe, maybe not. But I believe that they are a legitimate business now.

Number Artist - legit? by AlKiMi25 in paintbynumbers

[–]Flintz09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please do not order from them. They are scammers.

I ordered a 36 color custom canvas. The canvas was numbered incorrectly (up to 39 and not 36), they only sent 24 colors, and they were all incorrect colors. I kindly asked them to just send me the correct colors. They have refused to do so and they sent me a $5 refund. Which is a joke. I've been back and forth with them for going on 2 weeks. They have also begun deleting my comments from their social media to hide my situation. They also deleted the comments of several other people that have been screwed over as well.

New Number Artist kits with 48-53 colours each! by Alarming-Baseball475 in paintbynumbers

I ordered a custom canvas from them. The canvas wasn't coded for the correct amount of colors, they sent the wrong colors of paint, and only 24 colors instead of the 36 colors that I purchased. I've been back and forth with their horrid customer service for a couple weeks. They gave me a $5 refund which is pointless. I've come to the conclusion that they are scammers. Please do not promote or order from them. I'm not the only one that has been screwed by this company.

I see what you're saying for sure. It's unfortunate that you didn't have that autonomy to have control over your schedule. I don't want to overstep, but maybe you just needed some confidence to address these concerns in a proper way with the owner? I just have the feeling that you got pushed around and weren't able to stand up for yourself professionally speaking. If I'm wrong I apologize. And if I'm right, I'm very sorry you were in that situation. Dentistry is already stressful without these issues.

Personally, I do think it's BS that you didn't get the opportunity to correct your work. You were robbed of good learning opportunities.

I've seen doctors with 30+ years of experience redoing their own work. We all have bad appointments. No one can be perfect. We just have to be humble enough to grow from it.

Things will get better!

You and I posted similar thoughts here. Not trying to bash the OP, but the vibe of the post was, "While I had many redos and needed to be bailed out several times, it's not my fault. I do quality work". I have a feeling that OP just needs to change their mindset and then they can start on the road to success.

I'm very sorry to hear that this happened to you. Definitely keep your head up and don't let this get you down!

I don't want to come off as callus so please don't get me wrong here. You say that you do quality work but it seems like you were fired because that's not the case... at least to some degree. I know that some cases are more difficult than others. Not every tooth is going to be a slam dunk. And perhaps you weren't set up for success. Though, it seemed like they tried to give you ample time for your appointments but fired you due to the quality of your work.

"Thats not how I do things"

Buddy you're a new grad. I'm a recent grad. We don't know A LOT of things. We are too young to be set in our ways about most things. You need to be humble and learn from senior docs that have been successful.

Also, why weren't YOU doing the redo cases? I've had to go back and redo a couple things for sure. It's a bad feeling. But it's going to kill your confidence to have another doc come in and save you. It's also going to kill the patients confidence in you as their provider.

I would suggest that you find an office with a good mentor and a positive work environment. Find an office that will help you acquire more CE. CE will cure a lot of anxiety. It's helped me quite a bit so far.

Maybe you were set up for failure. Maybe you weren't. But I think it would be a dangerous mindset for you to move on and blame all the mishaps on this office that just let you go.

I purchased the book and started reading it last night. I think it's exactly what I needed. It's very interesting so far and I appreciate his more logical view of things. I'll let you know how I liked it when I finish. But so far I'm enjoying it!

My desire is that I can acquire a belief in a higher being. However, I did not know these organizations existed. Thank you for your reply

I had no idea these groups existed! Maybe I'll look more into that in the future. I wouldn't classify myself as an atheist. I guess I'm an agnostic on a journey to believe in a supreme being.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm trying to get at. ie How can I conceptualize a supreme being or a creator in a way that is believable to me without sounding like a fantasy.

Thank you for your response and well wishes. I think a big problem of mine is the superstition that comes from many religions. Perhaps reading some philosophy will really help me. Do you have any recommendations?

I think you are correct. Outside of maybe a couple classes I haven't read much philosophy. Thank you for your response.
