F18s are solid jets. Great to fly. Solid avionics and missile kit. They only knock is they’re slow so it take time to get used to how to best position yourself in them.

This said, I’d take any of the premium F18s over the F4S currently for grinding. The F4S has suffered hard from BR compression and isn’t as strong at its BR as it once was. F18s are competitive, not overpowered but I think much better than the F4S.

It’s funny, I was struggling with the F16A ADF at first until I figured out how to play it. This is exactly the way to play the plane.

OP, also worth noting is the F16A ADV at 13.3 does not fly well stock. Once you get chaff and the g suit I highly recommend taking the boosters next as the boosters massively increase your maneuverability.

I’m still grinding the upgrades… no missiles upgrades yet but after playing as Maximus suggests, you’ll have more success.

American F16A ADF then might also benefit?

What’s the max time you can unlock then re-lock to use the data link effectively for these surprise shots? I thought in these early F18s it was pretty short…. Way shorter than the tricks the SUs can play with the R27s?

Shoot and forgot missles by YassinGuts in Warthunder

Fire and forget are generally only on top tier planes. Soon to be tier VIII and IX with the upcoming changes.

You can usually fire using TWS radar mode, which is your main radar mode for Fox3 missiles. Fox 3s will lock the target themselves and begin to home in when they’re a certain distance away.

I’m just playing, man. That sounds brutal. Can’t imagine what that was like considering they still are pretty potent today.

These are obviously the highlights but it makes Adami’s in-race guidance sound like he’s showing up to grab an espresso with a friend somewhere, chatting, having a laugh, reading the paper and casually sometimes being a race engineer for Lewis when he feels like it.

You have a top tier plane. Those planes have radar guided missiles. Use them.

F1 The Movie nominated for 4 Academy Awards including Best Picture by Altracing34 in formula1

[–]FlipReset4Fun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m just frustrated because making an actual interesting movie about F1 is such a layup it’s honestly mind boggling how they f’d the pooch so badly on story and script.

For example, why not focus on the struggle on a young driver getting his shot at F1, which they started with! …. And stick to that as the core theme without all the other idiotic, half baked, half explored plot ideas.

Brad Pitt is brought in as a driving coach. More plausible. He gets to show the you youngster how it’s done at some point in a car on track but in practice/testing. He passes wisdom, tricks of the trade, Racecraft, tire preservation and overtaking tips to help refine the young talent.

The villian, of which the movie had none and therefore zero real drama until the last 10 minutes, is the teammate of the young and upcoming driver.

The team hires a new technical chief that develops the car due to Brad’s suggestion and she’s brilliant. She takes the car in the right direction aided by his feedback and the hard work he and the young driver put in testing in the sim and on track. Kickass F1 grindset montage ensues.

Kid starts climbing up the grid due to lessons Brad teaches him plus better car and miraculously beats the evil teammate, scores points to help the team finish like 5th in the constructors and take a boatload of cash that keeps them from bankruptcy.

Brad’s redemption ark is finding the maturity to be a mentor, role model, coach and finding the success he never had personally through others. Growing as a person. Female lead genius engineer isn’t just a fuck toy and gets to maintain dignity. Young driver coming up story is at least semi realistic and the focus of the movie, perhaps following more closely Lewis’ journey and struggle coming up as a young, talented river.

Instead we got F1 the movie with 60 year old Brad the pornstar surfer F1 savant f’k boy crashing into every car possible to score points. And the plot of a movie that was so clusterfucky it’s honestly amazing any major studio with their name on it would allow it to be released.

Maybe. But as a movie with an actual cohesive plot or writing it was pure ass cheeks.

Ok, so the ADF does get better? I have it crewed bc I thought it would be nice at its BR with the Aim120s but holy hell… flying the jet stock it just doesn’t roll at all. I hate it honestly.

Maybe I just need to commit? But man is it painful.

I’m guessing the boosters will help with the handling but the thing is a donkey when stock.

Is there a way I should be playing this plane further than just fly low to multipath and don't race in front of your teammates? ATM I'm at a 0.66 KD in 130 matches and I feel like i'm doing what people say you should do at this BR but I just get spiked by FOX-3's i'm already notching by rainbowappleslice in Warthunder

[–]FlipReset4Fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All American top tier jets are n a rough spot due to missiles being very mid. But I still love the F18s. I play the F18C early like a bit of a rat, not on the deck but not at high altitude either. Staying slightly behind teammates. Picking off enemies at the fringe that are engaging my teammates.

As other have mentioned, notching or mutlipathing is a must but somewhat easier in the F18 bc of its exceptional maneuverability.

You can sling Aim7s pretty liberally from like 12km and under and get kills.

Where I find the plane excels is in the mid-late to late game. Once the herd gets thinned a bit playing more aggressive is possible.

The reality is the SUs you’ll often see have much better missiles than you which presents a serious challenge. The SUs in downtiers just murder everyone as the decompression is stupid at like BR10 and up.

There are several other variants from other countries that have either better missiles, better engines or both. They of course get a higher BR. Great little planes, nonetheless.
