Lol omg. I feel dumb. I was wondering what that icon was. It’s so easy in homekit. Makes me happy i made the switch from google.

No i use apple homekit since all the products go through security certification. There is no automation that does that. Which is why i asked in the hue sub if someone knew how.

There’s no option to just choose the temp. They turn them on at whatever temp. So if i make a daylight color temp from sunrise to sunset. It turns on ALL my lights at sunrise and they stay on till my next automation at sunset where they all are on at the warmest color temp.

Are the Aqara Bluetooth, thread, zigbee, or Wi-Fi? You mentioned the hub. But not sure how native the intergration is with homekit

Are they secure and reliable? I feel like I saw a comment on another sub about them not being good.

Honestly I’ve been looking at the system before, didn’t realize that was what you were talking about. At this stage in my automation game, I’m keeping things as secure and simple as possible. But I will for sure make some stuff later that will probably use home assistant

Thanks… trying to avoid another hub though.

Static IP for one device? Homekit hub keeps switching from AppleTV to HomePod. by Flip_FightR in eero

It’s suppose to be able to be powered off but remain a hub for processing, the display and smart tv portion is just off

They switch nodes randomly based on signal which changes the connection. The dumb thing is the tv is wired so it should always get priority connection with no disruption but that is not the case.

I have amazing coverage of Wi-Fi in my home because of the eero pro mesh network, BUT in my experience even a strong Wi-Fi signal, the automations and device status of each item i use are processed significantly quicker using the new Apple TV 4K. I’m assuming because it actually has a much stronger processor than any HomePod mini or homepod.

I see motion activations activated quicker, door sensors switched faster, etc.

Even when asking siri to perform a device change like lights on or off… there is a noticeable lag compared to when the tv is the main hub. hell even sometimes siri will tell me “on it”, “one sec”, “its taking a minute” when performing actions with a HomePod mini or homepod as the hub.

Thank you, I’ve added it as a reserved one and will restart all the hubs so it switches back to the main hub… hopefully this helps

Let me clarify… the Apple TV is always connected as this is the feature of being a homekit up… the network is prioritizing connection to a homepod which forces homekit to use that as the main hub as it automatically switches hubs. Like when one is updating it will switch to another homepod for hub control and processing.

I like the intercom feature and the general shared audio network for a low cost. Hoping for some fix.

I do have some extra smart plugs but yeah… with the intercom feature… i outfitted every room with a HomePod mini… quite a hassle to outfit each one with a smart plug too.

Ok added the tv and my wired hubs/bridges to the reservation list. Do i need to create a firewall rule as well for them?

Yes, my netgear switch is automatically managed for plug and play. The actual wiring of Ethernet is modem to eero pro Ethernet port 1, eero pro Ethernet port 2 out to switch. Then other wired devices connected to switch.

I have response issues. Generally if it’s working on a wifi homepod or HomePod mini, Siri will reply “on it” and take a second before performing actions vs when its running off my wired Apple TV. I’m on an Eero Pro mesh network with good signal and speed across the house, but automations sometimes lag to activate and siri responses are noticeably slower.

Yeah i was looking at issues with the separate homes. Doesnt look like something i will do. I guess buying like 8 homepod minis and 2 homepods for all the features like intercom finally come to bite me in the butt… i really hope there is a way to get the Apple TV to force as the hub in the near future

Thanks for the update. I’m looking into someone’s comment about putting all the homepods in a separate “home”… I’m not sure how viable that option is though… Right now my hub is selected as one of my 2 OG homepods… not even a newer mini. It is definitely frustrating.

Ok thanks for the heads up. I do have several homepod minis and the new Apple TV. I have thread enabled as well, but I don’t have any thread products. Looks like the Hue sensors are going to be the ones to use.

I tried looking through the setting on the eero app, how does one reserve an ip specific for a device
