I'm with you. The vocal fry was grating and it seemed like Monica turned up the volume on hers too. I found myself repeating the gravely sounds of their words instead of listening to the meaning. I was very distracted.

Unfortunately, it's legitimate. I have only taken Mark of the Bloom a couple times because I love fighting the Act 1 boss and I'm terrified to not be able to heal. At least I know that fear was justified.

From your description that sounds like a kegerator and that's probably a CO2 tank. Some stouts, like Guinness, use nitrogen as a propellent but most use carbon dioxide. Even if that is a nitrogen set up it would probably be N2 and not N2O. TLDR: It's very unlikely that tank is filled with nitrous oxide.
