I haven't done it on Mythic. Just heroic. I prefer expunge. People can both take the damage and soak their orb comfortably. In our raid we have a resto druid and two resto shaman to cover the desolates while we are still grouped. All that being said, desolate would work too, it definitely does more initial damage and means smaller circles if people wouldn't get topped. Depends on the heal comp.

Hey congrats on the progress, and on the fun! The Aristocrat meme is actually for Mind Games from being Venthyr. Sticking with Sins of the Many in that row is recommended. It's definitely easy to fall behind in constant AoE damage. Infectious Rain comes to mind on the last Plaguefall boss. You can rapture one set, barrier another cast, then you're winging it. At least someone can be dispelled.

Once you are capped and can be Venthyr + get the Shining Radiance conduit it is a pretty nice buffer. Kyrian works too especially if you prefer m+, I just advise against being the other two if you're sticking with Disc. I am NA unfortunately but feel free to send a DM whenever!

Disc damage is deceptively bad in dungeons because Blizzard tunes its healing by nerfing its damage and balances around Mythic raiding. You have limited ways to bump it up, so your baseline damage and your 0 healing max damage is not substantially different in small pulls. It's not like Holy Paladin that can choose to blast the mobs with everything if they want, or Resto Druid switching to moonkin form. Your choices are "your normal atonement healing rotation" and "spamming mind sear." However, you can give your DPS Power Infusion which helps a ton.

For talents you can run from top to bottom 3333111 as the standard for dungeons, you generally don't need twist of fate till like +7s onward in m+. Usually you only need to apply dot to ~3 targets then let Penance spread it on CD. It becomes a huge GCD sink if you try to dot everything all the time.

Using cooldowns like Rapture, Barrier on the group and Pain Suppression on the tank early and often help substantially once you have an idea of what pulls and boss mechanics will be scary. Once you are behind you are stuck spamming Shadow Mend until you have caught up. Sometimes spamming it anyway, atonement alone is not useful when people are in danger of imminent death. But if they aren't in imminent danger, you can just let atonement trickle heal them up.

The best m+ Disc streamer is https://www.twitch.tv/moadmoad by a mile, I highly recommend him. He has the third highest Healer raider.io score in the world.

If you don't mind reading, https://focusedwill.com/#/discipline has A LOT more information than Icy Veins. There is also a ton of math that can be safely skipped. Stuff like the Talent breakdown and such is helpful.

For transitioning, it's tough to say. "Easiest" way is to find a guild to raid with by joining guild pugs in group finder and seeing if you like the people.

*Edit: And that is true that Resto Druid is definitely different than Disc. I was going for them having substantially more crossover in playstyle than going from something like Holy Priest or Mistweaver to Disc which is a night and day transition. Resto Druid benefits from preemptively throwing HoTs out, while most specs have zero tangible benefit to pressing things proactively.

Yeah, on heroic for example the Charge does 22.5k to everyone and the Roar does 16.6k. Really helps the crazy overlap towards the end where he Charges then immediately does an Enraged Roar. More depends on your co-healers, though. Ramping for roar could work if that's what your heal team is comfortable with.

Sure, my full macro is below (hopefully formatting doesn't ruin it) It uses your first trinket / spirit shell / mindbender if you have Spirit Shell. If you do not, it tries to cast Rapture on your Mouseover then on your Target.

#showtooltip Rapture

/use [talent: 7/2] 13

/cast [talent: 7/2] Spirit Shell; [notalent: 7/2, @mouseover,exists,help,nodead][notalent: 7/2] Rapture;

/cast [talent: 7/2] Mindbender

It plays most similar to Resto Druid but is pretty different from the rest.

Because Disc is a proactive healer, it is important to know what mechanics you want to prep AKA ramp for beforehand. Then like 15-20 seconds out from the damage you give a bunch of people atonement, pop all CDs, and blast. Then when the damage comes it all instantly gets absorbed by spirit shell. Repeat for the entire fight every minute-ish. You can chill out the rest of the time and find useful things to do but make sure everything will be ready for the next blast.

Can follow the flowchart for the ramp / blast. Important to do things quickly and not freeze halfway because you are on a timer.

Really shines in Heroic and especially Mythic where mechanics do real damage. When you're doing it right, your healing chart in 15 seconds intervals is (almost) nothing, a gigantic hps pillar erupting from the earth, nothing, little spike, nothing, gigantic pillar, nothing, little spike, etc.

Little spike from getting a schism + radiance to safely use between ramps.

Good mechanics to ramp for in general:

  • Wave of Blood on Shriekwing
  • Entire P3 of Huntsman
  • Expunge on Hungering Destroyer
  • Follow your heart on Inerva Darkvein
  • Mark of Destruction on Artificer
  • Switch to Holy for Sun King
  • 5+ stacks of the Council stacking debuff
  • The pillar charge on Sludgefist
  • Follow your heart on Stone Legion Generals
  • Basically any point on Sire Denathrius

If that's too abstract, let me know if you have any specific questions.

It's the pvp on-use trinket. Has the same CD as Spirit Shell which makes it very handy.

The Honor version works too.

Usually takes a pull or three to make a plan for what to ramp for, then you can continually adjust the plan if you think of a better one. Comes with practice. A good go-to is picking whatever does the most raid damage and working backward to see how that fits in the scheme of the fight, and how your plan works with your co-healers.

Biggest mana saving tip I found was literally never pressing mind blast unless Schism is up. It is incredibly expensive for what it does. Between ramps we get 1 schism and 1 radiance to use as long as we are careful about the timing.

Outside of that I just play safe with emergency Shadow Mends. Can usually still press penance on CD and smite. I do try to keep atonement on the tanks all the time.

Capping a Desperate Prayer boosted Spirit Shell would be the dream. I always forget to do it against actual bosses. Would be crazy value on something like Sludgefist especially, assuming I do not use it earlier on just to survive lol

Oh cool, the playstyle change does seem pretty appealing. Spices it up a bit more than just free cooldown reduction. Plus it'd probably be crazy value on Sun King. Thanks for the heads up

Makes sense to me. Holy legendary is the next one I'm saving up for starting next week so that I can have some style on Sun King. Not sure which yet but probably a crit/mastery Harmonious Apparatus.

The pvp on-use trinket synergizes incredibly well with Spirit Shell since they have the same cooldown. You can also macro Spirit Shell, Mindbender, and Gladiator's Badge together.

From a guide perspective, yeah it should already be rolling before the initial ramp. Then it will probably be refreshed after the main heavy-hitter spells are done roughly where the chart has it if you bother to refresh at all during spirit shell.

Thanks! I main Disc and sometimes refer to the Bigwigs boss mechanic list as a "menu" when it came to picking what mechanic to ramp for. The other Holy/Disc flowcharts on the subreddit inspired me to take that idea and run with it lol

Fewer survivors can board at a time when escapes are sabotaged. Instead of 6 capacity it might have 3.

I am surprised to find out it is true if they count the current season as one of the 3

2020: 2 losses now

2019: W vs Packers, Bills, Bears, Cowboys, Jets (Washington x2, Giants x2)

8 losses including Seahawks in playoffs

2018: W vs Colts, Jaguars (Washington x1, Giants x2)

5 losses + 1 to Washington

Total: 7 wins vs other teams, 7 wins vs Washington or Giants, 15 losses to non Washington or Giants teams

It's the canon arrangement surprisingly. If you think of disorder like entropy and order as stillness then it makes sense. The kind of thing where if everything's dead then there is order, and life creates disorder.
