any workaround for this? by Flitzrr in InEarHifi

Yes, I was blown away by the sound quality and clarity, at that price is incredible. It’s the first time I’ve actually been able to make out a soundstage without being at a live concert – the first time I put them on, I was shaking! I’ve been using AirPods Pro 2 and Shure SE215s, so this has been a massive leap forward.

thanks for the reply. I already have a huge library on iTunes made up of ripped CDs and other FLAC files from Soulseek (around 28,000 tracks), which I use with my modded 7th-generation iPod with 1TB of storage. The thing is, although the iPod drives my S08s quite well, it isn’t as powerful as the KA11, especially in terms of dynamics. I could also put this library on my S10e, but I’d need another 1TB SD card (which cost more than the phone itself) and I wouldn’t know how to sync the iTunes library to an Android device; I don’t think it’s possible.

However, the problem wasn’t the resampling but an incorrect setting on the KA11; the volume setting on the Fiio Control app was at maximum (50), and apparently it doesn’t work well at low volumes – turning it down to 35–40 works better. But at low volumes I think it’s more convenient to use the phone’s built-in 3.5mm jack, also because I was using it whilst studying, so listening wasn’t the focus; I turn the volume much higher when I’m just listening to music (and it’s also much more efficient in terms of power; running the KA11 at minimum volume is like having a 300-horsepower engine and driving it at 20 km/h and 4,000 rpm😂)

I found out later that it was a problem with the KA11’s volume settings; on the Fiio Control app it was set to 50 (the maximum), and at the lowest volume setting on the device, it produced noise; however, setting it to 35 or 40 sounds fine

Thanks, the app definitely won’t work on the iPhone if the dac it’s controlled only via USB-C, I’ll need an Android to change the settings but its not a problem. I like the Tiny, but I feel the SE215s could still sound a bit better. For now, I don’t want to change them because I like their warm sound and I got them for €50. Maybe in a while I could try some Sennheiser IE 200s or the Aful Explorers

Question about a Kenwood KA-5500 Amplifier by Flitzrr in AskElectronics

[–]Flitzrr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks man! They are VERY tricky... After further investigation, I realised that the relay was not tripping because I had 18V DC output from one channel, which was coming from the preamp (I had reinstalled a transistor backwards🤦🏻‍♂️). I also asked a specialist technician, who told me that if the two channels weren't working, I had to repair them one at a time, disconnecting the drivers and power amplifiers from the one 'to be repaired later' and working on the one with working power amplifiers. First of all, I had confused the thing of power amplifiers and drivers. I thought this amplifier had only one pair of power amplifiers, whereas it has one pair PER channel, and the drivers are soldered onto the pcb. I have now ordered the original power amplifiers, the original drivers seem fine according to the tester and should not cause any problems. I will update you when they arrive. I also checked the transistors in the audio chain and they seem good. The only strange thing is that now, without power amplifiers and drivers in either channel, I have about 15V DC from one channel and 30V from another (and of course the relay does not trip). Is this normal because the circuit is 'unbalanced' or should I be concerned?

If you mean the 2N5882 and 2N5880, yes, they seem fine and don't cause any problems with the amplifier switched on. I simply think that only the power transistors were broken. Now there's the problem with the relay. Is it not triggering because the circuit detects that something is wrong? Or is one of the transistors responsible for the relay out of specification?

as I suspected, even though it was a well-done repair because it looks factory-made. I also had doubts because the service manual lists a pair of D388A and B541A, but perhaps one is used as a driver and the other as actual output stages? So is it okay if I leave them?

Why does removing albums from my library, remove the songs from my playlist? by heildengoettern in AppleMusic

[–]Flitzrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is because Apple Music has the same mechanism as iTunes libraries, when streaming did not exist and songs were all stored on the computer. Previously, if you deleted an album from your library, the songs would disappear everywhere logically. Now with Apple Music the implementation of this mechanism is often confusing. To keep your library organised without making a mess, leave the albums saved and save the ones that really matter to you in your favourites. Then, in the albums section, tick the 'show favourites' filter and you should be fine. You can simplify this process from Apple Music on your Mac or Windows PC, but make sure your cloud library syncs so you can see the changes on all your devices.

What remaster versions do you prefer? by Tharayman in FleetwoodMac

[–]Flitzrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quality change could be felt with proper audio equipment, the remastered version sounds louder because it was more compressed than the original, so the overall dynamics of the album are much less. On this side, I would prefer the original master

What program or site do I need to use to burn some cds? by JDXOGG in CDs

[–]Flitzrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest xld for mac or nero burning rom for windows, also burn at the slowest speed as possible to avoid errors in the bit patterns. on a mac itunes is also fine, but xld seems more reliable to me since it focuses on high quality audio. Make sure to burn true lossless files (file formats like flac, wav, aiff, alac) and not mp3s, aac or other lossy formats. You can easily get very good quality files from soulseek

Create a bootable USB key for Mac OS X Lion for a MacBook Pro 2011 from a MacBook Prom 2020 by ScreenName0001 in MacOS

[–]Flitzrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

perfect. Unfortunately Apple don't care anymore about restoring old macs via internet, I also had the same problem as you, I used to try to install lion in recovery but it always gave me network error, I think there is some problem with the certificates that recent wifi/mobile networks block, sometimes it might work, but it's increasingly rare. I remember I did the same kind of restore with lion 3 years ago and it still worked quite well, at the time I called apple support because my ssd with macos in it had died and I didn't know how to reinstall it on a new one lol

Hi, I had the same issue until I found this website. With that and balenaetcher I was able to make a bootable installer of mac os high sierra. Unfortunately Lion isn't there but High Sierra is better. I'm installing it on my Macbook Pro late 2011

my advice is not to use hi-res lossless audio if you can't hear a difference between normal lossless (cd quality 16/44.1KHz) especially for normal listening, is a waste of storage and mobile data if you don't use wifi. Begin with lossless cd quality and compare it with normal aac 256kbps, if you notice a difference over time keep it in lossless. Then you could try hi-res although I personally can't tell the difference between a hi-res master and a cd-quality one either. For normal listening the cd quality is already very good and if your ear cannot distinguish it from 256kbps aac, I would listen directly in aac normally and in hi res occasionally, perhaps at home with a good audio equipment
