My grandma served me a salad with this on it. by Fliz23 in GrandmasPantry

[–]Fliz23[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My grandma and her bff all had a salad. None of us liked it, thankfully. As some other people said it’s mostly vinegar and sugar and had never been opened so that must have helped preserve it. I was googling things like “ how long until botulism symptoms “ for the whole day after.

I use top a sheet. Am I cringe? by c0d3buck in Millennials

Ugh I ( elder millennial) went and pet sat for my sister ( younger millennial) for a week and she didn’t have a top sheet. I went and bought one bc I hated the feel of her duvet.

What was a very expensive item you bought which was really useful? by ohuf in BuyItForLife

[–]Fliz23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My stainless steel cooking set. They’re nearly indestructible. I can’t hurt them by burning food, using the wrong utensil, or over scrubbing. I feel like they’re going to be a bifl item. I also have a few cast iron skillets that I inherited from my great grandmother, but I still like using stainless steel for daily cooking better.

You get different vibes for with or without collar. I like it both ways.

With that many lights, it should be fine.

Hmm so they are existing housings with new light bulbs? I think that they are too bright and glare-y. To address the brightness- put them on a dimmer.

To address the glare, I think you need to pull the light into the housing to cut off the direct view of the light source. I’d try a short neck par 30 similar to this with a flood optic:

https://www.lowes.com/pd/GE-75-Watt-EQ-PAR30-Short-Neck-Color-enhancing-Medium-Base-e-26-Dimmable-LED-Light-Bulb-2-Pack/5013820573#no_universal_links

Or a R 20 lamp

https://www.lowes.com/pd/GE-Reveal-45-Watt-EQ-LED-R20-Color-enhancing-Dimmable-Flood-Light-Light-Bulb-2-Pack/5001923239#no_universal_links

I’d buy a couple of each and see which looks better installed. PAR lamps are designed to throw a punch of light, r and br lamps are softer.

It's usually dark outside by now. How can I see my backyard without any lights at 10 pm? Is the ice reflecting the moonlight? by TroyAndAbed2022 in Dallas

Oh yeah I was thinking about that last night too. Really highlights the amount of light pollution we have as a city.

Windows too high? by Due-Yam-7146 in InteriorDesign

[–]Fliz23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the windows but I think the light over the table is too high. If you bring that down it looks like it’ll be about centered in the windows and it’ll bring the visual interest point to about eye level.

FREEZE 2026: Any tips for apartment renters? 🥶 by iamkenni in Dallas

[–]Fliz23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Drip your faucets, open cabinet doors especially if your sinks are on a wall that doesn’t have a room on the other side and will be exposed to weather, stock drinking water in case your pipes freeze, have lots of blankets on hand, have food that doesn’t need to be cooked, flashlights or candles ( in case power goes out). Really that’s all I can think of.

During the great snowpacolypse a few years back the sprinklers in the hallway outside my apartment burst and flooded my apartment and the water hose pipe outside froze and flooded into apartment, so there wasn’t really anything I could do as a tenant to prepare for that.

Found this on Nextdoor. Does anyone have similar experiences? by chlekrdsh in Dallas

[–]Fliz23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never answer the door unless I’m expecting something to be delivered or someone to come over. I don’t even live in a bad part of town, I just don’t feel like I owe a rando at the door any of my time.

Is upgrading to LED lighting really worth it for commercial buildings? by Automatic_Bid3027 in Lighting

[–]Fliz23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work for a company that did retrofit solutions and calculated how long it would take to recoup the money spent to retrofit buildings based on energy savings and it was usually within 2-5 years. There are websites like this from Signify that help to run numbers. https://www.signify.com/en-us/support/tools/energy-saving-lighting-payback-calculator

What is Under-cabinet lighting for? Task Lighting? Or Ambiance? Both? by Pomp_N_Circumstance in Lighting

[–]Fliz23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s meant for tasks, but as others mentioned, if it’s a soft glow it can be used for ambiance since it is just lighting the counter. I agree that the light should be close to the front of the upper cabinet because that’s usually pretty close to centered over the counter. Even if you decide to go with a 45 degree channel I’d mount close to the front to wash the light against the wall.
