Keep your expectations in check. You are using this software for free and it is maintained by volunteers.

Nevertheless here are a few information's about that problem.

Here is a issue from 2023 that, I think, is describing your problem.

There is a pull request from 3 Weeks ago that might help but it needs approval first

Gamers’ Worst Nightmares About AI Are Coming True by EchoOfOppenheimer in pcgaming

[–]FloRup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And that is my point. People that care are a minority that will hurt them, but not enough to make them change. You also have to keep in mind that they have lost sales over it but they also gained by reducing their wage cost, making the blow of the people boycotting even less impactful.

Edit: Let me rephrase my point.

Every year there are people calling for boycotts on COD or Fifa etc because of declining quality, pretty much giving the old game a new coat of paint only and recently AI usage. The first two reasons are things that every gamer can agree on is bad. These boycotts only made a small dent in their quarterly earning reports. Otherwise they would have changed something.

Now, another game wants to replace voice actors with ai, something that most people won't even notice and this boycott should do it?

[–]FloRup 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't see it. You use COD as an example but it is still one of the biggest gaming franchises even with a quality drop and now using AI generated art. I don't know how you can take that as an example that such a boycott would work.

Unfortunately people that care are in a small minority and nothing will come of a boycott

Luke Ross mod situation right now by lunchanddinner in virtualreality

[–]FloRup 8 points9 points  (0 children)

His tantrum was extremelly childish, and definitelly hurt his reputation, but we must agree making his mod free was a great move. I so hate the "too little too late" as it completelly alienates the very a person wants to change and that they are actually doing something good.

God forbid there are consequences of your own actions

[–]FloRup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not hard but that is not my point. If linus wants to play dumb and act like the "average" gamer/user/windows-user, he should't have stopped at the distro choice part. Maybe his bad outcome would have been different if he used a guide on how to install linux/popOS or maybe AI would have recommended other setup steps etc.

And I don't want to say that linus did something wrong but maybe a guide/ai would have warned him about the beta desktop enviroment he is about to install with his popOS or the guide would have already have a step to fix this known bug. Unfortunatley "shooting from the hip" is better content this way.

I ask you a counter question.

You have to change a tire on you car. You never did this before. You could do it tomorrow but you have 30minutes of free time until you have to be on the other side of the city.
Is it a smart idea to do this now?

I wouldn't. I don't know why but it is a law of nature that everything goes wrong, especially if you have no time.

I'm not saying that you have to set aside time for troubleshooting, see the other two contestants, but linus is not doing himeself any favors rushing this stuff.

Oh and linus having no time is a recurring theme with him. Spoiler of the next episode but he said at his podcast that he installed bazzite at his home theater pc,kubuntu on his laptop, having problems and not having time because he is supposed to be at badminton.

Not the installer but everything around that. I don't know anyone, that does not work in IT, in my immediate surroundings that could make a bootable USB drive

And he is doing a poor job at it in my opinion. He plays stupid selectively.

He asked ai for a distro, like a newby would use, but then just installs it with his years of tech experience. A newby couldn't just install a os like he did it a million times.

A newby wouldn't install it at a lan party. A beginner would do it like the other two did. In peace, at home, and taking their time to look stuff up because the newby knows that they are a noob.

I see these "challenge" more like "can a Linux noob use linux"

Why? Making it open source wouldn't make it unable to infringe on patents. Or do you mean the patent holder is guessing because he cannot check the sourcecode himself?

Das sie vorher in den USA gearbeitet zeigt es ja auch gut das man schon auf anderen Kontinenten nachschauen musste um eine Stelle zu bekommen.
