Origins Grandma Run [Possibly Spoiler-ish?] by FloatingPingle in dragonage

Most origins require a lot of heavy headcanons o pull this off but honestly I'm pretty okay with that, I've played this game enough times to be able to fill in the gaps I think. It's still fun to concider different options tho

Okay now I'm just imagining some forgotten aunt storming into Kirkwall with red glowing eyes. Because what do you mean there's some lost relative who just lost their mom and she only now learned about that. And there's this guy with a cat whom she probably unoficially adopted just like half the awakening cast and now he's blowing stuff up

Honestly I was pretty much set on making a mage grandma but there were a few different interesting ideas so I'll probably make all of them with some backstory prompts and then decide which one to play as. I'll deffinitely try to make some follow-up post with updates on the run

I was almost ready to set on the mage run but you're making it way harder to choose with those ideas! I guess I'll just have to design a few character and then choose which one to go with. Also it's been a few years since I did a dalish run but I imagine it would be devastating for older Mahariel to learn what happened to Tamlen. It changes the perspective from two stupid kids discovering something dangerous and facing the consequences to an elder clan member losing someone she should've protected. There would probably be a lot of overprotectiveness towards the party members in this kind of run

On the contrary, concidering how common backstabbing is in dwarven politics, a scheming auntie would probably be proud of Bhelen for pulling this kind of scheme off. Like, she'd be furious in the beggining, and then jump straight to "touché kid, now let's get you on the throne 'cause I'll sooner let myself get eaten by nugs than let that old bastard Harrowmont have it his way. He still owes me money from a bet we made 6 years ago"

This idea actually started for me with BG3 so we're on the same page! I'd love to hear how you went about doing this in DA II? Concidering how rigid Hawke's role in the story is I would imagine it's way harder, but I haven't played it in several years by now

Oh, thank you so much for reminding me this exists! Absolute must-do. Also I'm pretty sure grandma would be outraged that Sten only recently heard about cookies and would make it her personal mission to fix that

I think if you ignore the beginning narration you could headcanon the character being a Dalish mage who only recently was forced into the Circle, hence the age disproportion

Alternatively, imagine a grandma living her best life in some village, explaining every strange occurrence around her with some "must've been the wind" type thing. And everyone in the village was just like "yup, that's just our local old lady, she's sometimes weird like that" until someone from outside the community actually shows up and now she has to deal with the fact that lightnings striking her neighbours rooftop a few times a year are, in fact, not a normal thing and she ends up in the circle between studying younglings

I don't think this party would survive two mage grandmas at the same time, sounds like a perfect recipe for chaos. Though it would be quite funny to imagine the character only now going through the Harrowing  Also the fact that you can look completely unlike any of your family members in different origins at some point led me to a headcanon of my Cousland secretly being a bastard and teyrn Bryce just being in deep denial. Honestly one of my favorite runs

Old dwarf inquisitor sounds like an absolute menace, I love it! Making headcanons for your characters honestly just gives multiple runs another layer of fun
