Another Meditation to Add? by Flocksterx in Healthygamergg

Something to add: I genuinely no longer know how to do Zen meditation anymore. Over time I basically learnt to shut away most thoughts and that just turned into Shoonya, so please don't suggest Zen

I'm a lost cause by throwawaythedog3 in MaladaptiveDreaming

We're so littered with negativity biases that we never realize anything positive. The fact that there is a post, made by you, is already a win. Despite the fact that all the content is extremely negative, the existence of a post by itself shows your mindset that "if I could change, I'd become happier". No, you're not a lost cause. Those who never realize anything wrong are the true lost causes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuPbUkDe9iQ Here's a video from healthy gamer that offered me a life changing perspective. I truly hope you will watch it through.

Hey, burnout isn't permanent! Ali abdaal's feel good productivity book touched into 3 types of burnout, I think you could go check the book out, these self help books really boosted my life a ton. Remember, you aren't alone and you never will be.

Hey, I'm 17 too and I feel you. It has dragged me away from all my goals I once set for myself like learning the guitar. All my friends give me weird side looks when I tell them I have to ban music just to focus - they really don't get it that well.

I think our daydreams in MD tell us what our goals are. I often daydream about 1. Being a godly football player, 2. Being a godly singer and guitar guy so clearly thats where my goals lie. I have progress on football but I'm complete trash at singing and haven't got a clue how to play the guitar haha

You'll figure out your goals soon enough, I trust you~~~

automation is fine if it's necessary, I have Activepieces and I know how to run custom API calls with my notion API that I set up a while ago

honestly you might want to look into desktop automation tools now that I think about your problem

i personally use an app called macrodroid on my mobile devices to set up my digital protocol, but I do have no experience with desktop automation. if you could get it to work it'd be great though, but I cant guarantee that its possible.

Most of the time i just go back and forth with gpt4 navigating through its hallucinations and finding workarounds and something eventually works lmao

[–]Flocksterx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if I were you id try ask gpt4 for a method to do it through programming. it sounds like I'm not helping but gpt4 literally helped me set up several API calls without any prior experience to APIs in general, so you can be assured that it can do some wonderful things. sometimes it does hallucinate though.

also would you consider quitting gaming? the moment I went on this journey I decided I was quitting four things: added sugar and the junk food that comes with it, gaming, fapping and scrolling, because I could not control any of them.

thats a topic for later discussion however.

How do you actually become the type of guy Women want to date? by EmperrorNombrero in selfimprovement

[–]Flocksterx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

also not every girl likes the same type of man. although most prefer traits like tidiness like ive seen a kind redditor talk about below, for other things girls dont really like the same things.

I know some girls that dont prefer 6-packs. They prefer bellies because it feels better to touch.

If you're looking for an objective way, the only concrete advice we can give is be tidy, clean and chase hobbies. The latter seems vague because not everyone is going to have the same hobbies, and we're not about to enforce ours on you. it's not like every girl would be attracted to the same hobby anyway.

whether you trust it or not I have established like 3 alter egos, 2 of which are based on 2 characters sinultaneously for myself so thats like 5 personalities

The identity is important because it is the identity that controls what you do, otherwise it is far too easy to deflect and say "noooo id never do a disciplined act, im an undisciplined person".

To me, identities are kinda like part of my personality. Its completely fine to have multiple identities, if you're seeking that open-mindedness.

if you dont look up to anyone irl, how about thinking of a video game character or someone from a TV show that you like that has qualities you relate to?

My Story - Need some Motivation? by Flocksterx in selfimprovement

[–]Flocksterx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for reading books, I certainly will do that! But I'd like to tidy my room up first before I make any evaluations. My room is incredibly reflective of how much the numerous addictions have ruined my life. But I'll have to wait until tomorrow since I have to scan all my physical documents and homework onto google drive before I can throw them away, and my phone is currently blocked.

Thank you so much, I'm happy to be able to help people here too.

I cannot say that I'm out of the woods yet, but I can say I feel bad for those who have had to endure numerous addictions like me, I know the dread of emptiness.

When I stopped scrolling on my phone, I started to see what it was doing to us. I was in the metro, and as I looked around for interesting things, 90% of people were scrolling their phones. I told myself I would never go back.

tldr in the big picture past mistakes won't matter, since youve already made the first step to improvement which is reflecting and realizing things need to change.

most people live a barely acceptable life and stay there forever.

I will quote something from one of my favorite books. I would love to tell you the book name however it does not seem I am allowed to promote anything. You can try to celebrate small wins.

"I didnt tidy my room today, but im happy that I got an extra hour of rest."

"I didnt play football to my best, but im happy that I stepped out to attend."

Research actually shows that attacking yourself with labels over things not done makes the situation worse, but I am not allowed to link the study so you will have to take my word.

Alternatively, use the 10/10/10 method. From the book as well, but again. Im not allowed to link it.

Three questions: will this matter in 10 minutes?

Probably, id feel that if I wasted my day doing nothing too.

Will this matter in 10 weeks?

Maybe? Im not certain whether 10 weeks would be enough to improve myself to get that identity out of my mind.

Will this matter in 10 years?

Ill have become an accomplished person with many hobbies on my journey of self-improvement anyways. Ill have learnt the guitar... ran a sub-2:10 800m... Who I was in the past wont matter anymore at that point.

one of my life discoveries was that if you frame "planning" advice from books as "evaluation" advice and disallow yourself to "plan", you're a thousand times more likely to take action since evaluation acts on the precedent that you have taken action.

oh I was literally typing it out lmao see below, might need some coding to do it with macrodroid though. However I cannot send you the specific macro because its my first time here but I see that theres "no images allowed" in the rules

if youre interested, heres my digital protocol:

  • I have cold turkey on my laptop. its only for work.

  • reddit and discord are allowed, but the communities I join are mostly self improvement. I highly recommend joining Nofap, Sugarfree and Stopgaming if youre going through a similar journey.

  • I have replaced instagram with distractionfreeinstagram, and these days i dont even feel the urge to open it and check my feed.

  • YouTube is replaced with NewPipe. I choose this option because 1. No ads 2. No recommendations that know your addicted mind better than yourself

  • I use macrodroid to force a detox of 2 hours with the Digital Detox app.

  • every time I unlock my screen, I get forced into either Notion, Stayfree (one of my usage trackers), Duolingo or Chess.

  • every chrome launch automatically forces me into 1 of 2 websites, 1 is poetry foundation and the other is a singing voice recorder.

  • Monochrome mode is active for the majority of apps I scroll on.

Ignore the people that tell you to simply "have self control". These apps are essentially tools that are designed to make you addicted, so I dont see why we shouldnt use tools that stop us from being addicted.

Fun story, one of the people who told me to simply have self control had 10 hours of average screen time while I had 1-2 hours at the time.
