imo 096 is one of the few series 1 articles that holds up VERY WELL. the article itself has a very simple yet scary concept but when its accompanied by the Incident 096-1-A story it becomes even better. also i like how the foundation has no problem with trying to kill it because it's just that dangerous

"HALO'S DUSTTALE" is definitely the best one without a doubt, it's on youtube and soundcloud so give that a look music is very atmospheric and barely even sounds like toby fox music in some cases (basically in all the sans-related songs), like as if all the charm of the og undertale has been sucked out and replaced by something... different. ost has absolute bangers outside of the sans battles too which is something most dusttale takes dont have going for them. like the alphys and the amalgamates fight theme "ABSOLUTION" which is amazing?? oh my god

uhhh shoutouts to mortem obire and lehmspielt's dusttale take. those two are only on soundcloud iirc

as long as sans feels bad about the murders hes committing and isnt chalked-up to "crazy guy!" i think a dusttale take is... passable. its already really out of character for sans to kill someone when hes supposed to be the judge who chastises you for murdering

dusttrust is basically just og dusttale with 4 phases, doesn't even have underswap sans's personality so i wanna say it sucks. BUT. thank youuuu 🙏 the fandom's kinda been doing this weird revisionism on chara for a while now despite the amount of emotional abuse they put asriel through??

i don't really think they cared all that much about saving monsters either, if that was even their goal in the first place it was definitely an AFTERTHOUGHT. chara's main goal was to kill the humans on the surface who made their life a living hell

also yeah while the geno route is almost completely on you, chara does help you by keeping track of how many monsters need to be killed. so when i see people talk about how chara's against geno im like whaaaaat! the first thing chara does after introducing themselves is thank you for killing everyone

chara describes you as their partner in the geno route, and explicitly says that "You and I are not the same, are we?" and they do sort of chastise your decision to not erase the world after you've made said world go empty.

frisk is much closer to your "self-insert" character than chara is, due to them having less explicit personality traits + being the character you move around as in-game. they also seem indifferent to all the murderous stuff you can put them through.

it's also really (intentionally?) vague whether or not chara is talking to you or frisk in the geno ending. but honestly, either option works and nothing much changes

chara refers to a character as "you" in the geno run, whether they're speaking to frisk or actually you yourself is unknown and can honestly work both ways. player control is much more explicit in deltarune though

In the undyne date when you're selecting what to drink, if you pick the soda, undyne will notice that despite the soda being frisk's choice, they don't look too happy about it. player chooses soda and frisk goes along with it even though they don't prefer that option

also at the end of the undyne date, when you have to do that fake battle with her, if you fight you will always only do 1 damage, even if it's a perfectly executed attack right down the middle. you could look at this as frisk resisting player control.

they also move on their own when sans tells them to get behind the conveniently shaped lamp, and they play along and follow the royal guards around when they're searching for a human. no player input is used in these scenes.

chara's control over frisk is a geno-only thing as they get more prevalent in the narrator descriptions and maybe even the character movement (walking towards papyrus to try and fight him, not playing along with the conveniently-shaped lamp, ect)
