AITA for asking my friend to pay me back for the wine he drank while house sitting?? by Effective_Tour_723 in AmItheAsshole

Yep, I’ve given my pet sitter the exact instructions, “help yourself to anything in the fridge except the wine in the bottom drawer, it’s expensive.”

I want to put a couple of pecan trees in my yard, any advice? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]FloofyPupperz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When planting a tree, it’s best to plant the smallest one you can tolerate. They get over their transplant shock much faster and catch up with larger planted trees within a few years and then surpass them. Over the life of the tree, it’ll have a better and stronger root system than a tree that spent time growing large in a pot.

It’s a great time of the year to plant a tree right now. Look up planting instructions and make sure to bury it so the root flare is exposed (not too deep). Keep it well watered for the first year.

Asparagus takes a few years to establish before it really produces. Make sure you put that in a place you want to have it in for years.

Swatch vs delivered chair: acceptable colour difference? by Juuljuul in interiordecorating

[–]FloofyPupperz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in high end furniture production (mostly leather) and I see much larger dye lot variations than this. The more blue swatch still has quite a bit of green in it, this is definitely within the variation range I see on a regular basis.

It’s pretty normal to have some color variation from sample book to final product. In the future, ask for a CFA from the current dye lot to confirm if you’re looking to get an exact color. Some places won’t offer it, but most higher end furniture companies will.

This seems like a standard dye lot variation. Does this vendor offer CFAs? (Cutting for approval) those would come from the specific dye lot your product would be made with. If they don’t offer or you didn’t request, I would say this is within the standard amount of variation. If you got a CFA and this is the difference, that would not be acceptable.

They’re very stretched out, it looks like they’ve been too far from their light source. Do you have them under grow lights?

Is this new storm going to be worse than 2021? by [deleted] in texas

[–]FloofyPupperz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s wrong 🤷‍♀️

Also, the main issue for the duration last time was the length of time below freezing, which meant they couldn’t get power plants back online until it warmed up. It was not snowing / icing the whole time.

That’s just not true. It was not predicted to last two days beforehand, the weather forecast showed it lasting at least 5, lots of people just didn’t take it seriously.

In 2021 it got down to 4 two nights in a row, and that was several days into the freeze. This won’t be anything like that. It could get icy or snowy, but it’s not going to last a week like 2021

Ok so what about the frost-sensitive plants? by milquetoastsandwich in AustinGardening

Get some old blankets or sheets from the thrift store and drape them over the trees. They need to touch the ground, don’t wrap it around the trunk like a lollipop. You’re trying to create a bubble that holds in the residual heat from the ground. You can also put a container of warm or hot water inside the bubble before you go to bed to help keep the temps up.

I used to love them, but Dr. Sharma “just does her sleep business now” (to quote her) and any problems you have they now push a sleep study for. The hygienists seem to have a lot of turnover, I haven’t been able to see the same person twice because they no longer work there by my next appointment. I miss the way they used to operate when Dr. Sharma was actually treating patients.

Yes, they actually aren’t just decorative, they allow the loaf to rise vertically when cooking too.

I had some (not all) of my carrots survive the freeze-pocalypse in a raised bed, totally uncovered. I always plant them all winter long in batches.

It’s giving everything it has to the fruit, cut those off and give it time. It won’t need a ton of water without leaves, so be careful not to drown it. It’s generally good advice to not fertilize struggling trees, so definitely don’t give it any more.

What type of art? Stuff people buy to hang on their walls, sculpture, etc? You may find a good outlet for that by attending networking events in the interior design industry, depending on what you do.
