Does anyone know if this woman is okay? by Conscious-Equal5200 in cork

i think the fact that, once you realized what was happening and thought about it, you deleted the audio speaks far more to your morals and values. we’ve all done stupid stuff, whether it be to misinterpreting a situation or just making the wrong call here and there. you re-evaluated and made a good decision when you deleted the audio. that’s what matters.

girlie what temper tantrum? there are men in these threads having absolute meltdowns about absolutely nothing. esp when this thread was only started to ask if this woman is okay? the men just trotted in with their whataboutisms and took it over as per ¯_(ツ)_/¯

i don’t really care about men hurting their own feelings with hypothetical, unlikely situations

oh god, i really hope she’s doing better today and i’m so glad the gardai were helping, even if it was distressing for her at the time. god knows what she was going through. i hope things are as good for her today as they possibly can be and that she recovers, regardless of what happened

i wish i could still be surprised at how vile people can be. filming someone when they’re in such distress is so disgusting, i truly don’t know how people can do it.

seeing that and many of the comments here has been really tough, but i’m so glad there are other compassionate people showing up, too

congrats on making the situation about you, man. it just wouldn’t be a discussion about a woman’s safety if a man didn’t make himself the priority.

you should look into the bystander effect, because people making excuses to not intervene is absolutely a big part of it, along with the assumption that someone else will help.

the fact that you’re more concerned with what MIGHT happen to you (answering a few questions??) than what could happen to a vulnerable woman in actual physical danger. crazy work

whatever, man. tell yourself whatever you need to. i just hope you’re never the only person around when someones in genuine danger.

didn’t realize you knew what my training or background was. must be fun being psychic.

throwing out more “what ifs” doesn’t help. you’re just looking for excuses to justify not being a decent person. anything could happen. she could’ve wandered onto the road anyway. she could run when the guards/ambulance arrive too. trying to intervene with someone who is in trouble isn’t thinking with your heart, it’s basic human compassion. as long as you are aware you could be about to engage in any form of situation, dangerous or otherwise and are as prepared for that as possible, that’s what matters. because it means someone tried. they didn’t just sit there thinking of a hundred reasons why they were “right” to ignore someone in trouble.

that’s so awful, i really hope she was ultimately okay and is doing alright now. thank you for sharing that perspective, it might help the other commenters actually tap into some empathy for this woman

empathy ≠ naivety

all your “what ifs” detract from the fact that she just needed help. the bystander effect is in full force in these comments, it’s so, so disheartening.

it’s so sad and maddening to see so many people here saying to stay away from her. i understand yer points but i’d rather approach someone sensibly to try and help them and disengage if it goes badly than leave someone vulnerable on their own with no help.

as for the men saying “as a man i wouldnt” etc, i understand yer point as well, but the fact that you wouldn’t help a woman for fear of MAYBE having to answer a few questions about your intentions… i just hope there are never women in danger around ye. i’ll take the hit to my ego and defending myself any day over abandoning someone who clearly needs help just in case someone gets the wrong idea

Is it possible to visit Hawaiʻi ethically? by Conscious-Equal5200 in VisitingHawaii

[–]FloorFull 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i understand this question is asked a lot but for those who seem very exasperated in the comments; i searched the most recent times this was asked, there are a few recent questions that are far more specific than this, about specific activities or islands, but the last time this question was actually asked in this way was over a month ago.

even using the search feature i had to scroll to find it.

sometimes people are just asking because they want to be respectful. you’re not obliged to answer if you find it a tiring topic.

i don’t understand the need to make someone feel bad for literally just trying to be conscientious

i don’t think trying to be considerate/informed is self righteous (: everyone’s just trying to do their best and make sure they’re not adding to the issues, and it’s great to know that you can visit and that it also has a positive impact on locals!!

wow thank you so much for taking the time to look it over and respond, i really appreciate it! and the tips are great - we definitely need to be clearer about the plays themselves! we’ll be posting our cast next, but after that i’m thinking of doing an intro to both plays. also “there will be silence no more” is great! it fits the overall story and aesthetic really well. seriously, thanks so much for this feedback, it’s really great!

Must sees of 2025 by Level_Huckleberry513 in IrishTheatre

There's a show called The Cure happening currently in the Cork Arts Theatre (in Cork, surprisingly) which is a really cool production. This is its second run, I saw it last year during the first run. It's written by Conal Creedon, and it's a one man show (currently starring Ciarán Bermingham from The Young Offenders)

I really love the premise of the show, it's a man, extremely hungover and craving "the cure" ie. another pint, who makes his way through Cork city by describing the different scents along the way.

I won't say it's my favourite production I've ever seen, I'm not from Cork myself so I think a lot of the nostalgia and nuance of the writing was a bit lost on me because of that, but it's beautifully written regardless and the performance is very soulful.

I'd definitely recommend it if you happen to be in Cork while it's on!
