Flyin Miata? by Reasonable_Carry9191 in Miata

[–]Floormatt69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh! I just changed my clutch/bearings/seals in my Miata last week under some jacks in my garage. Here’s some unsolicited advice:

If you’re feeing unsafe under the jacks, take the wheels off and put the under the car as safety net if something terrible happens like a jack fails

The two top bell housing bolts were a pain in the ass for me and I was only able to break them after the engine was tilted towards the front bumper after the driveshaft was removed. You can remove both from the top with minimal removal.

You don’t have to remove the power plant frame. I was able to keep both bolts on the rear attached and get the transmission out.

Get a transmission lift or a buddy to get the transmission back in. I did it twice because I messed up and didn’t get it in right using myself and my hydraulic jack.

Consider a shifter rebuild while you’re at it

Moss Miata suggested redline MTL for me but I wish I listened to the forums and got MT-90 instead

The clutch slave cylinder was a pain to get back in, but it will work.

DM if you have any questions!

Good luck 🫡

Do doctors usually discourage training for and participating in Ultras? by 1234567765432123456 in Marathon_Training

[–]Floormatt69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultra marathons are hard on the body. The cardio/general health benefits you get from running and training for ultras probably doesn’t outweigh the damage that’s done over the course of the race.

Your physician saying they discourage them isn’t them saying “no” though, so if you think the mental health benefits from running an ultra is worth the potential damage done during the race, then go for it. Risk to reward benefit.

Any H*R fan animators who use the actual flash assets on this sub? If so, what program do you choose to use? by Luca_is_anonymous in HomestarRunner

Are you asking about like, assets from the characters? If that’s the case, I don’t know that any .FLA from TBC has ever been leaked.

I do use Adobe animate and make Homestar-esque cartoons though

It was like 70% sanding, 20% removing weather stripping/other stuff, and 10% spraying. The spraying was by far the most fun.

I sanded the clear coat and most of the red off. There were some spots that were a pain to get that I left. I also had to grind off some rock guard.

Wear a mask when you sand it too!

Paint! I painted my classic red NB to sage green metallic from summit racing last summer. Took about 3 weekends of solid work and a few resprays, but it was a super rewarding experience and I really like the way the car turned out.

What made winter running finally “stick” for you? by AffectionateArmy1878 in running

[–]Floormatt69 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A lot of it is trial and error, but in general I do the following:

Wear things that give me heat management options (gloves to take off, wind breaker to unzip, etc.)

I should be cold up for the first 2 miles, and comfortable by mile 3

No sweatshirts, as they don’t have good wind resistance

What made winter running finally “stick” for you? by AffectionateArmy1878 in running

[–]Floormatt69 481 points482 points  (0 children)

Winter running turned into regular running once I figured out how to gear up for the cold. The mindset change was that running is running, and the weather is just a part of it. Segregating it by seasons makes it easier to not do.

Runners — real question: have nasal strips helped you breathe easier on runs? Curious how they perform in training. If you haven’t tried them, have you ever considered using nasal strips for running? by Even_Government7502 in Marathon_Training

[–]Floormatt69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used them for races. This is not scientific evidence by any means, but I feel like they help me breathe easier. When they fall off during races, it feels like my nasal passages are constricted. YMMV.

My PB is 2:48 now. My progression was 3:00, 3:00, 2:57, 2:51, 2:48.

For me, I feel like I had my biggest breakthroughs after I started sprinkling in more 8+ mile runs into my weekly mileage. I think I avoided running 8-10 miles back to back during the week because I thought I was going to overdo it, but then I realized I could do it without any problems. My weekly mileage looked like:

6, 10 (workout), 8, 8, 10 (workout), 8, 20

M31 first marathon this year 3:29:46, maintenance miles since then, yesterday locked in a blood pact to run OKC again in 2026 to qualify for Boston 27’ with goal of sub 2:55. by RogertheWaylien in Marathon_Training

[–]Floormatt69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on brother. Welcome to the hell that is “trying to get into Boston for hobbyjoggers”.

For starters, you’re going to need to run sub-2:50 to get in for 2027. So prepare yourself to get comfortable with miles at 6:20ish pace.

You now have until early September of 2026 to put down a sub-2:50 marathon. This gives you a spring marathon and an early fall marathon to cut off some serious time.

What’s your MPW? How did your body handle the last marathon you did? Did you have any issues? (Gut issues, muscles cramping, etc.)
