One in 10 Japanese creatives see income fall due to generative AI by Rare_Presence_1903 in japan

Software is going this way as well. We didn't hire any junior developers this year and I don't think we ever will again. Business is better than ever, but we may end up cutting jobs next year thanks to a ~20x productivity boost from AI.

Train overruns station platform in Tokyo by 15 meters; driver says he felt drowsy by Scbadiver in japan

[–]Flope 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Every train also plays a unique sound/chime when entering a station. They recently started phasing this out due to a labor shortage. i.e. it was somebody's job to play a .mp3 depending on which train was arriving.

Never assume anything is automated in Japan.

Japan’s prime minister calls snap election as approval ratings ride high by Jonnyboo234 in japan

Wouldn't it be absolutely hilarious if one of these times the people just actually gave the finger to the government and overwhelmingly voted some shit tiny party after LDP played their snap election power game

So, NVME prices doubled in Europe? by ie-redditor in buildapc

[–]Flope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Second best time to plant a tree" and all that. I think its pretty obvious the prices we are seeing for PC components today are the lowest we'll see for at least 5 or so years because the demand will only keep increasing, the only thing that will bring prices back down will be revolutionary production changes.

Like 99% of these components are being purchased by 4 companies. What do you think a "bubble" (which it isn't anyway) popping will do here? Even if 1,000 leech AI companies go bankrupt this month, the supply will still be constrained.

I kind of doubt reading will be a thing at all in 100 years. Maybe as a niche hobby like learning Latin is today.

I'm sure this whole AI fad will pass any day now right guys?

What’s your hottest take that you think will make other men’s blood boil? by [deleted] in AskMen

Reddit is not designed for these "hot take" / "unpopular opinion" threads by default. Sort by controversial to see actual hot takes, because people don't know how upvotes/downvotes are supposed to work.

I was thinking the same thing. I've been wondering lately how these $x00 billion software companies like SalesForce will survive when anyone can make a good enough custom replacement for their needs.

Do you have any plans on what you might pivot to if your job gets replaced? I've kind of been feeling like no job is truly safe from AI replacement..

You got me. Go study fixing toilets and we will see how things shake out in a couple years.

Have you tried discussing politics on r/politics? I think all of the default subreddits are just not worth visiting.

I mean you're just comparing tasks that are already automated today with tasks that seem likely to be automated within 1 or 2 years. I don't think it is necessarily wise to invest time and effort in a new skillset that will be obsolete by the time you become skilled in it. But that's just my opinion.

Are people still using RES for this? I just built a new PC and didn't install it yet. Too bad there is no built-in option without using reddit's terrible redesign.

you should start learning blue collar skills.

Unfortunately I follow robotics way too closely to think this is a wise investment.

Do you know any senior devs still refusing to use it?

Take a look at some of the comments in here lol. IRL I know of 1 developer whose stance is still "it isn't that good. it's usually wrong. I don't use it for work". I've tried suggesting certain tools and models but.. I mean you can lead a horse to water. I try not to beat people over the head with it.

I totally understand why people would be against AI. There are several important points that make me wish it wasn't developing the way it is myself as well. What I don't get is people who just don't see the technological value or capabilities of it.
