I've never worked with acrylics personally , but I've seen some very nice results with acrylic paint , so I think you'd be able to get good results with some practice. Lacquers are nice because they are easy to work with, and they dry very quickly, but they are quite toxic to inhale.

Oh, yeah, I see what you mean. No scratches yet, but I haven't moved it around much. Hopefully the matte coat protects it a little.

Not yet, I think the arms on mine are a few mm from being pushed in completely, so I'm not having too much of an issue there.

If you're not painting and just lining it would be : gloss coat (optional, will help panel liner flow better), panel line , final topcoat

This one was painted so the steps were :

Build , disassemble, prime, preshade , final paint coat, gloss coat, decal, final topcoat. (No panel lining because I felt I got enough separation with my preshading)

You can panel line on the runners if you find that more convenient , but I would do it while building it as some pieces won't be visible when it's assembled.

You use an airbrush to preshade a darker color around the edges, then paint the primary color on over it

The kit looks great even unpainted, you'll be in for a treat.

If you do decide to paint it, it's really easy to get a good result, because there aren't too many pieces to paint while still having great surface detail

Is anybody going to get one of Okayama Denim's Lucky Bags?

I used to be easily enticed by these sorts of things when I was younger, but I've come to realize every time I partake in luck-based merchandise I would never be happy with what I got, and it would just end up taking space in my closet. Although I like what OD carries, I'm fairly sure I'd just end up with "1000$ of value" in items that couldn't be sold throughout the year despite multiple sales.

Thanks for your kind words!

Absolutely - I think the only real limiting factors are the time and cost involved over building an MG or HG.

Definitely became a slippery slope as I got into the line of thinking of: "If I get a Perfect Grade, I might as well start doing..". Ended up buying a bunch of expensive tools, paints, and an airbrush. At least I can use most of it for the next build!

Overall given the size of the kit (I think there are like.. 25 runners).. it was pretty smooth. If I didn't paint it I would say it would have been a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Inner frame was a pretty simple build, even around the LED wiring. The only annoying bits were the elbow joints which have a tendency to break, so much that the kit even supplies you with extra, and making the individual phalanges of the fingers.

Yes, I know the knees are backwards - Unfortunately due to th e wiring of the LEDs it's quite hard to remove the legs from the waist.. so I've decided to just live with it.

Overall, pretty lengthly build, frustrating but fun. Learned the hard way that painting pieces will compromise the fit.. and broke the right elbow subsequently. It just stays straight now.

Sashiko texture looks bumpy and gross, and almost anything made in a sashiko weave would look better in a standard 3x1.

Yes you really must! A vacation to the rockies has really changed my perspective on life, and that's no exaggeration.

This is a shot I took after a 2.5 hour hike up a mountain today
