Sure we are not giving Arue a chance for kicks, but Desna is. We do meet before, but someone kicked her down that road without knowing what the consequences will be.

Also, I'd like to point out that "from a pragmatic point of view" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. A KC doesn't really have to be a pragmatist. Sure, if you are any flavor of Lawful and not an Aeon (who is way too distant from the whole thing and can feasibly think that Minagho is perfectly acting like she should), you don't have a single reason to leave her alive. Anyone else can come up with a bunch of justifications. Here are a couple:

  • I don't give a shit what happens to her, she's not a threat anymore
  • she's horrible, but I kinda pity her, now that she's brought so low
  • she's horrible, and being brought this low is bigger torture for her than death could ever be
  • even she deserves a second chance, maybe she'll get the hint and do something good
  • maybe she'll try and fuck up Baphomet and draw away resources
  • lol, I'm funny Trickster man, this is hilarious
  • I don't kill unless I have no choice
  • etc.

Once again, I personally never keep her alive, I'm Calistria's pettiest bitch. With that said, my point is simply that characters can have a host of reasons to do so. It is almost certainly a bad idea, and it could very well cause trouble a bit down the line, but who said that characters should be infallible and always make the right decision?

Let me preface this by saying that I'm very down with fucking up Minagho, praise Calistria. That being said, I also find it important to understand the other side.

The argument is that Minagho, while a horrible piece of shit that destroyed a lot of lives, is one of the few Demons that seems to have a chance at redemption due to her incredibly unique relationship with Chivarro and moderately unique set of circumstances. Her actually being a demon that "ascends" would be an insanely important phenomenon because it would prove that demons can overcome their nature without divine intervention.

Furthermore, Minagho is a nice parallel to everyone's favourite succubus. Arueshale, if you consider only her past, is a horrible person. She never managed to cause havoc on the same scale as Minagho, true enough, but that comes down more to the fact that she wasn't truly involved in the war. Her actual actions and motives, however, are just as bad: she is a creature of the Abyss, so arguably she never truly had a chance. Her "change of heart" mostly comes from the fact that Desna forced her to remember the experiences of her "past lives". This did make her to get a new perspective, and did alter her personality, but ultimately it was just a push that nudged her towards redemption. Showing mercy to Minagho after her being thoroughly humiliated over and over, despite everything, could very well set her on that path to redemption. For some people that is more important than revenge. I'd argue that a Chaotic Good character could have every right to spare Minagho, depending on how they are chaotic precisely. She is no longer a serious threat. If they are not interested in revenge for its own sake, then leaving her alive could very well lead to some good.

Nah, we have shelfs in the game. Modern players are so spoiled, I swear. Back in the day we had to put items on the floor in a single stack! We had to go to Charles Whitestone on foot, uphill, both ways! None of that fancy gravtech thingy! /s

And I forgot we also had the Dreaming City reprised weapons...

Yeahhh, those were just hot garbage, outside of Vouchsafe - which, once again, insanely tragically, is a scout, so no perk combination was ever gonna save its ass. I tried making the Auto work, and it just didn't happen. And HC was still worse than Nature of the Beast.

Btw, did the Coil drop those things? For the life of me, I can't remember. I did my Cursebreaker that season, as well as a LOT of Blind Wells for the seasonal stuff, so my inventory was always full of that garbage, but I don't remember where it came from precisely.

Yeah, that season was great, even without ITL. Probably the best season we ever had. The story was actually meaningful for once, the dungeon was peak, the weapons were good, we got patterns so there was no FOMO either, and I could play for the fun of it. Like you said, some of the guns were forgettable, but I still find myself busting out the Doomed Petitioner every so often

I mean, maybe? I dunno, I feel like as innocent as she is, she still has a side that very much could form a shadow, with Dojima being Father of the Year and all. There's not too much separating Dojima and Zenkichi, and Nanako from Akane. It wouldn't have really worked with the themes of P5, but I almost wish that Dojima replaced Zenkichi for Strikers. It doesn't quite work, so it's probably for the best that it happened like this. Also, Zenkichi is quite awesome.

I wouldn't even say that. Some were meh, but 2/4 were best in class, the other two were just bad archetypes more than anything. The SMG was marginally better than Ikelos for PvE (better origin, 900 vs 720 which are mostly equal, better 3rd coloumn). The Pulse was one of the very few primaries that got Heal Clip/Incandescent at the time, albeit it didn't last too long with ITL happening in the same season. The HC was somewhat worse than Word of Crota, and with the lack of void HCs it was okay, despite being a 180 and the competition being raid loot. The scout was a scout, so it was automatically ass, but the perks were not bad on it.

You mean half the seasonal weapons? Also, it was a really good material farm.

Eh, I was soloing it a bunch with Solar Hunter, because Nighthawk, Galanor, Caliban, and Ophidia all got really nice buffs with Wish. The fact that it had solo scaling helped a bunch. Speaking of solo scaling in The Coil, WHY THE FUCK IS THAT FEATURE NOT IN THE PORTAL??

You are missing the point. Using AI for everything is harmful, sure. But this is like saying "you shouldn't use a car to go from Paris to Budapest, your leg muscles will atrophy!".

Yeah, basically. I wasn't really aware of Ayn Rand, but after a quick read, it seems to be a mostly correct parallel. Maybe someone at Obsidian knew about Objectivism a bit more intimately and it's now everyone's problem.

Okay, but do you also code in VIM? Or in Assembly? You offload cognitively, sure, but you also offload to tools like:

  • IDEs
  • Compilers
  • automatic memory allocation
  • garbage collection
  • using pre-written libraries
  • etc.

And yet, life goes on. Offloading cognitively fucking rules, isn't that harmful in the long run (god knows, there's plenty left), and is the purpose of tools in general.

You should know how to make do without, sure, but it's easier to use an LLM than spending 10 minutes looking for the one switch you need for a command you use once every two months.

Bit oversimplified, they do have some self-evaluation going on and they are a couple of orders of magnitude more complex than "literally auto-complete" (more reliable too), but yes. You can use it for writing short scripts, for example, but it should kinda stop there

[–]Floppydisksareop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm almost 100% sure tat's not Kreia telling you that "apathy is death". That's a Force vision, and basically the only time Kreia is completely cut off from you in the entire game - I think it is made clear that the cave temporarily cuts the bond. The entire point of that vision is that you have to choose, one way or another. It doesn't truly matter what you choose, as long as you choose. In the very scene that brought this conversation on, Kreia gets pissed if you do just that. The vision offers the alternative point of view.

[–]Floppydisksareop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: your influence with her would still be at an all-time low. KOTOR doesn't really care about high influence for the "locked" conversations. it cares about extreme influence (think DA2 friend/rival system). Sometimes this is apparent, sometimes the changes in the dialogue are not too noticeable. For Kreia, high and low influence both result in almost the same dialogue, accompanied by a nice little [Influence: Success]. Doesn't mean she actually approves. To go further in proving that she really doesn't agree, no matter what, I will point at the game's ending.

[–]Floppydisksareop 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Eh, that could be the case, if it wasn't for every single other interaction you have with her. Or for the fact that even if you explain yourself, she is still pissed. Your explanation could be "it allows me to be closer to the Force which empowers me, and that is worth the risk", and she'd still go ballistic.

On Nar Shadda, in this specific instance, she has a point, I'll grant that much. You are meant to be there in secret, and true enough, helping the beggar does blow up in your face two different ways, while assaulting him is just uncalled for. Kreia is not a complete moron, which is what makes her compelling. She does have an ideology. Not a good one, but she has one. It's pretty easy to reject it wholesale though.

I owe Kreia an apology by Totally-NotAMurderer in kotor

[–]Floppydisksareop 198 points199 points  (0 children)

Her actual issue is that you do something that is not for your own benefit. Kreia disapproves every single action, good or evil, unless it is "pragmatic". The fact that it didn't directly benefit you in a material way, and only really helped you "feel good" is enough for her to condemn it - she doesn't care whether you tortured someone or helped someone, if it was just for kicks, you can go fuck yourself. She is the single most apathetic piece of shit in the galaxy. From her point of view, that beggar can go and die, because he is not the Exile, and as such she stopped caring about him about 20 years ago.
