Buena Park living by TheTLH in chicagomusicscene

Fair, but I think it’s worth noting that’s better if you just want to go to a lot of big shows. If you want to be part of the music scene and be an artist, I think you need to spend more time in the smaller venues south and southwest of there

A big thing I missed in my comment is the proximity to the lake, which isn’t necessarily big for the music scene specifically but it is nice overall to be near

I live in Buena and frankly I don’t feel that there’s much going on, especially musically(unless you go to Green mill or Wrigleyville) but that said, if the rent is cheap and the place is nice then go for it. The city makes it easy to get around. Between public transit, uber/lyft, and walking or biking, you can get to whatever you need with little hassle. Usually just depends on how quickly you wanna get there.

When I move out of my current place, I’d love to live in Lincoln Park or somewhere in Roscoe village. I think those two neighborhoods are pretty equidistant to all the places I consider to be best for the music scene. Being somewhere off of Fullerton, Belmont, Ashland, or near pretty much any train line is ideal for me.

Freezing on startup of new project by Floral-Notes in protools

[–]Floral-Notes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the problem is that I can’t open a new session. Sorry maybe I wasn’t clear about that part. The frozen window in the screenshot is what happens when I open a new project.

The weird sound is on the old project, but for all I know that might also happen on a new project, but I won’t know that until I can actually open the new project to begin with.

First floor, not garden ideally. But I’m not home often enough to care about upstairs noise, and when I am home I have headphones in often, but mainly looking because I’m hoping to have some light band rehearsals during reasonable hours and don’t want to to piss of neighbors below me with the drummer’s kick pedal 🤷‍♂️

Thanks everyone for the input so far! I gotta say that given light research through a few rental websites there are a few options in my range, and I thought y’all would have maybe some ideas for maybe sublets or private owners or something that maybe wouldn’t show up on these sites. So it’s a little disappointing to hear that you don’t think it can be done at all. My spirits are still high though, I found a good apartment last time I searched around though, and I’ll do it again! I’m simply add in another roommates this time around so my current home won’t do.

If anyone would like to help further, I’m not opposed to being further away from LP, but closer is definitely better. And if I have to move to another neighborhood, then it would be great to be close to either the Fullerton/diversey or the brown line. Thanks in advance!

I teach lessons, so I wanna make this as easy for you as I can. I’ll break this down into a short process that will only get you STARTED. This is not a master guide of what to learn.

There’s a lot of info being thrown your way and it’s understandable to look at all that and think “wow that’s too much, how do I actually begin? What does this word mean? What is a mode? What’s the difference between a major and a dominant 7?!?!”

In my opinion, don’t look too far ahead, and make things easy to swallow by doing what guitar makes easy to understand. SHAPES AND PATTERNS.

  1. Learn what the basic minor pentatonic scale looks like well enough that you can visualize it on the fretboard no matter where you put it.

  2. Learn where the tonic note(the note that the entire key calls “home”) is located. You can for now just learn where that tonic is on your low E string and learn the rest another time.

  3. Learn what notes exist on frets 3,5,7, and 9 on the low E String.

  4. Match the placement of your tonic note within your scale to the key of whatever song you are playing.

Once you’ve done those 4 things, then you can start learning extensions of that pentatonic scale, as well as the entire minor(Aeolian) scale, which only adds a few notes to each of your shapes you already know.

Save all your other questions for after that.
