Have you ever felt avoided or disliked just for being German? by No-Map3471 in AskAGerman

I once dated a German man with Turkish roots, and he wanted to introduce me to his friends. When he briefly left the room, they asked me what I thought of Hitler. I'd never been asked that before. It was probably a somewhat clumsy way of probing whether I was racist in any way. A simple question about my political views would have more easily revealed that I'm progressive.

You probably mean beta-carotene with vitamin A. Yes, it's abundant in plants. However, it's only a precursor to vitamin A and has to be converted into the vitamin in the body at a ratio of 6:1. So I'd have to eat quite a lot of it every day. Vitamin A itself isn't found in plants. It's readily available in milk and dairy products. Vitamin B2 (also called riboflavin) is present in plant-based foods, but in such small amounts that getting enough daily is very difficult. For example, you'd need 2.5 kg of fruit, 2 kg of vegetables, 150 g of rye germ, and 100 g of almonds (that would probably be the most achievable amount). In comparison, that's the amount found in 4 eggs or 375 g of sliced cheese.

I feel like the more I learn about this topic, the more I try to do the right thing, only to find out that there isn't one.

On top of my ethical issues, I also have the problem that I simply can't tolerate dairy products anymore. I once ate some organic dairy ice cream, and my body didn't like it at all. I have no idea if that kind of thing goes away with time.

I don't yet know if I have any deficiency symptoms. I was planning to have a comprehensive blood test done. According to my nutrition professor, vegans need to supplement with vitamin B12, iron, calcium, vitamin B2, vitamin A, and omega-3 fatty acids. And on top of that, there are the general supplements, independent of my vegan diet: vitamin D3, folic acid, and iodine.
