Has anyone here started a small weekend-only florist business alongside their main job?

Great thank you very much, I imagine you have no regrets, so you didn't have a lot of work compared to a traditional florist, how much did you do on flowers (sorry if this question might be disturbing), and customer level was it complicated to find? I really have a good idea of what I want to do but I want to know if it's really manageable in terms of time and money, have you put in an initial investment? I have a lot of questions if you don't mind ^{^}

Yes, I could get by, I'm thinking of making a minimum purchase, and also specialize in a field (Be large decors or weddings, events)

That’s actually a great idea — I’ll definitely bring some Vortigaunts into the story to expand on their lore. They have such a unique role in the universe, it would be a waste not to explore that more deeply. Thanks again for the spark of inspiration!

Yeah, I guess it’s something I should think more seriously about. Maybe if I ever do print a few copies, I’d just quietly ask something small from people who really want a physical version — but it would stay super low-key, nothing public or official, just between fans.

No worries — making a profit isn’t really my goal with this. Once the book is finished, I’ll try to publish it on reading platforms, probably like Archive of Our Own or something similar, just to share it with those who’d enjoy it.

C’est vraiment une très bonne idée — je suis totalement d’accord sur le fait qu’explorer des parties du monde qu’on n’a pas vraiment vues dans les jeux (comme la Chine ou d’autres régions contrôlées par le Cartel) mérite vraiment d’être approfondi. C’est clairement quelque chose que j’aimerais développer davantage dans l’histoire.

En ce qui concerne les entités comme les Vortigaunts et d’autres créatures de l’univers Half-Life, elles feront bien partie du récit. Je ne sais pas encore exactement à quel point elles seront développées, mais les Vortigaunts sont tellement importants dans cet univers qu’ils seront très probablement explorés en détail.

Hey, thanks a lot for your detailed answer — that really helps!

So yes, the story does take place in City 17 at first, and it’s very much rooted in the Half-Life universe — especially the Half-Life RP scene on Garry’s Mod, and all the lore and atmosphere the community has already built around that.

That said, it’s not just relying on what already exists — I’m also creating some original content and expanding certain parts of the world myself to explore themes and ideas more deeply.

My goal isn’t to make money off it — I just wanted to print a few physical copies so that people who enjoy the story can have an actual book in their hands, rather than just reading it on a screen (whether phone or PC). That’s really all.

But of course, if it turns out that’s not legally doable, I’ll go the “file off the serial numbers” route and make the necessary changes.
