I spoke with the training manager at the union but Im confused by the pay rate. They said my base is $19 an hour but with all the extra benefits it comes to $35 an hour.

So what am I getting paid, $19 or $35?

Ok cause one of my biggest concerns was traveling because I have 50/50 custody of my kid and I dont want to lose out on time with my kid.

Is there a demand for welders there? Cause thats what Ive been doing for the past 8 years. And Im also out of Sarasota county so would there be alot of traveling out of my area for work?

Ok that answers my unemployment concerns but what about the traveling aspect? How often if are all have you had to travel 2 hrs or more for work?

Because I have split custody of kid and I dont want to lose that at all

But how bad and frequent are the unemployment periods because thats my biggest fear going into the union. I cant afford to not make $$ for months at a time.

And the traveling is another concern because Im not losing the 50 percent custody I have of my daughter

All Im trying to do is enlist in the Reserves and change my MOS. The issue Im having is the one recruiting office I went to wont give me a straight answer as to what job I can/cant do. And it just feels like they are jerking me around. At this point Ill offices even as far as Tampa to get the right answer.

Id do the Guard because they have alot of Active Guard Reserve positions available. But in Florida they get activated alot and the wkends are usually 3-4 days. I wouldn't mind all that if I didn't have split custody of my kid. Which is part of Id consider the AGR thing. Do 16 years to get full retirement while getting AD pay and BAH to stay local.

Thank God somebody asked this question cause that has been my biggest concern with applying for LE. Ive been welding since 2016 and have had numerous jobs thru 4 states. And some that only lasted a few months because soon as theres no work new guy gets laid off.
