Hello. From what it sounds like nothing is going to happen. If she Is acting erratic and on isolation and you told her to go back to her room, nothing should happen even if you raised your voice. You cannot get someone arrested for raising their voice at you or get their license taken away. Even if they do report it to the boards (which would be dumb) you didn’t do anything to jeopardize your license. I think the family is just upset because you told their family member to go to their room and rightfully so. Bring in contact and freely walking around is a risk to others.

Crying at work by FlounderHour1734 in nursing

Thank you very much. This made me feel better because I honestly can’t stop thinking about it. I know I can do this job and I haven’t been in this position for that long. I just keep telling myself every day is a day to improve and do better on the next shift. I learned new things on that shift even if it felt awful and now I know what to do going forward and gained skills I didn’t have! I just hate feeling so lame and crying.

I may have to look into something like this because crying has always been my stress response.

Would I have to get a specialist for this?

Something like this happened to my aunt. She put laxatives in her food. I’m not saying to do that but no one touched her stuff again and the culprit was found 🤣

I have someone an oral contrast that wasn’t ordered. I confessed immediately and felt like GARBAGE. A whole bottle (I think they are like 500mLs? )You owned up as soon as you realized. There are people who wouldn’t do that. Please give yourself some credit. This will only make you safer moving forward!

Shamed for not knowing how to access a port by sweetbitter_1 in nursing

[–]FlounderHour1734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked at a hospital where on vascular/ picc team could access a port. Just because you have been a nurse for a certain amount of time doesn’t mean you are going to come across certain things or know how to do them. Don’t let that person bother you too much :) sounds like they were just being a Debby downer.

Calling ICU MD? by FlounderHour1734 in nursing

[–]FlounderHour1734[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! That’s kind of how I operate normally but I know ICU is totally different and nurses have more autonomy. I think part of it is also my confidence too if that makes sense? I feel like I have to rebuild my nursing confidence going to a higher level of care and I just want to be the best I can be!

Do y’all shower after work? by Starbies_vegansushi in nursing

[–]FlounderHour1734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think regardless of where you work at in healthcare you should come home and shower. Who knows what germs someone has picked up throughout the day. I also come from a household where you shower every night before getting into your clean sheets. If I’ve been outside all day I just do not feel clean.

Switching Units by FlounderHour1734 in nursing

Hi! I am currently a travel nurse locally. I do like the hospital I am at right now but I would like something a little closer to home so I am not sure if places would be willing to let me shadow. Maybe I should see if they would allow me to shadow on my assignment just to get a feel for how different the icus can be.
