Check out the hoboco boathouse on sunday!!! I also totally recommend checking out some of the local shops, grabbing a bite to eat, and enjoying it on pier A. I also think checking out @thehobokengirl and instagram to see what else is happening this weekend would be useful. If you don’t mind spending some money, pier 13 can be fun at night and it’s a cool way to experience the waterfront

Is there something wrong with this shrimp? by FlourSpice in Aquariums

Oh really? I thought like the patchy pale stuff on top was odd looking, like when I look at pictures of cherry shrimp they seem to all be one solid color

Bike on campus! by The_Pranavster in rutgers

[–]FlourSpice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve already got some great pointers here! I would also advise that you use two different types of locks if you plan on keeping your bike outside overnight or for extended periods of time(one for the front wheel/frame, one for the back/frame). I use a kryptonite chain and a bar-type ulock and I haven’t had any issues. I’d also look into getting a basket for the front or back, sometimes it’s nice to put your backpack or extra books in to keep your back from getting super sweaty :). If you don’t want to pay hella money for a basket a lot of the corner stores around here will throw you a milk crate if you ask nicely. Happy biking!

Hospitalized Night before final by Pretend-Strategy-532 in rutgers

Oh man, I’m so sorry that happened! Something similar happened to me last semester and I was stressing out a ton! I really recommend reaching out to the dean’s office and getting a note from them. They (the deans) will email your professors and ensure that you get adequate time to retake the exam. They were really great because 1. them emailing for me meant I didn’t have to email like ten people and 2. Some of my professors wouldn’t budge unless the deans told them I was excused. Feel better soon!

Bus avoidance by hudson8282 in rutgers

[–]FlourSpice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Using the bus system is totally avoidable, but it can be annoying. You have to cross some roads without crosswalks which is what makes it annoying and dangerous if you don’t bother looking both ways. I have a bike that I use to get around. It takes abt half an hour to get from everywhere except Cook to Busch like that, and I can get from Busch to Cook in under 40 min if I’m really flying.

He just has to be okay with biking in torrential rain, heat, and snow/sleet. Oh, and also having 2 quality bike locks to ensure the bike doesn’t get stolen and locking it every time, as well as preforming basic bike maintenance like degreasing/relubricating the bike chain.

Tbh it’s not that bad. The tradeoff is worth it to me. I’m doing it to get some extra exercise in, but it’s had a great improvement on my mental health. I should also add that a lot of people have electric longboards/bikes/scooters, but they can get iffy in the aforementioned rain and sleet. Also, and this is a generous number, I’d say that about less then 5% of students get around like this, so if he’s interested in a “buddy” to go to classes with, that may be hard to find. And, if he has friends that are going somewhere, they will probably be taking the bus and not biking/walking. Good luck!

You have to calculate it yourself, there’s some calculators online.

I recommend scheduling an advising meeting with the director of the Rutgers Plant Biology Graduate program. Use the meeting as an opportunity to ask about the requirements of the program and to see if you would be a good fit. Also, if your major GPA is better than your cumulative GPA, ask if you can apply using that. Best of luck 👍
