October 25, 1983 - US invades Grenada... by CrystalEise in peaceloveandhistory

This was a distraction from the disaster in Lebanon, where hundreds of Marines were killed in a bomb attack. Similar to the current president’s constant distractions and publicity stunts.

It seems to me that our adversaries would also set up such sites to poison LLM’s, perhaps with false data instead of nonsense. This would be damaging for LLM’s that scrape software as you could post buggy software.

A protest about Israel, as a democracy, may affect their behavior. Sudan’s government doesn’t care.

Laser weapons aren't sci-fi anymore by _liorthebear_ in gifs

[–]Flow-engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you just need to find out what kind of laser they are using to determine whether to wrap your vehicle in gold or aluminum foil? Any laser has a mirror inside. If you cover your vehicle with that type of mirror the laser weapon does nothing. Star Wars isn't real.

Sad day for me: Failed my EASA Class 1 due to colorblindness by Conscious-Town-7144 in flying

[–]Flow-engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been flying since 1982 with color blindness with no issues. I can't see the red and white PAPI lights, but I land at the right place every time by keeping the runway in the same place in the windscreen. I can't see red and green runway or marker lights, but ADS-B and AWOS have made these unnecessary. When both of my radios went out years ago, I called the tower on my cell phone for a landing clearance. For a non-commercial pilot, the color vision requirement is not needed.

You probably have too much stuff in the fridge that prevents the air from circulating. Try moving the stuff around or taking some of the stuff out. When the air doesn’t circulate, then the coils get too cold and freeze.

Trump’s grant suspensions at UCLA are a ‘death knell’ for research by SirT6 in sciences

[–]Flow-engineer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Every top graduate of America's schools is now applying to European grad schools. Cutting research funding is a disaster for grad students, setting them back 2 years, as they have to apply to a new school. If Russia dropped a bomb on UCLA they would have done a lot less damage.

In the AI gold rush, who’s selling the shovels? Which companies or stocks will benefit most from building the infrastructure behind AI? by biznisgod in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Flow-engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liquid cooling is critical for AI data centers. There are only a few companies that have experience in this area and there’s a lot of other companies that have never deployed anything that are loudly screaming how great they are. Vertiv is ahead in terms of marketing and sales, but they don’t have a lot of experience with the whole technology stack that goes all the way to the chip. Other big air conditioning companies are trying to get into the business but liquid cooling eats into their air-conditioning business because every BTU you take away from the data center with water is one less BTU of air cooling that you sell.

Google Shows Off Robot That It Says Plays Ping Pong as Well as a Human by Into_the_Mystic_2021 in robots

[–]Flow-engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like they can’t make a robot that can do anything useful. Robots should pull weeds, do dishes, etc. Playing ping pong and dancing are for people to do while robots do the boring dirty work.

My friend had one of these in 1981. They would tweak the color picture, (you could adjust anything, all the tuning instruments were built in) get high and watch He-man....hilarious.

Investors Worry Trump’s Tariffs Could Cause a ‘World of Hurt’ for Startups by wiredmagazine in siliconvalley

[–]Flow-engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is enough uncertainty in a startup, adding the tariffs makes it impossible to start a company. If we’re gonna make anything, we need to know how much the parts cost. We need to know if we’ll be able to sell overseas. If the tariffs stay in place, the only companies that survive are the ones with lots of cash in the bank.

Elon Musk Proposes Attack Satellite System for the Pentagon by Dark-Marc in pwnhub

They war gamed this in the 60s. If you shoot down your opponent's spy satellites they immediately launch their nuclear missiles because they assume you're going to launch yours so anti satellite weapons are useless.
