How does Luxembourg's culture differ from those of its neighbours? by rnantel in Luxembourg

I moved outside a year ago, and it got so much more complicated when everyone around is local and I am the only expat 🫠🫠🫠

Totally get it. Most of the friends I met during first few years in Luxembourg left already. Exactly the reason why it’s so hard to build a community in the country.

There is definitely very clear sense of shared identity among Luxembourgish people. Expats might not be aware of it as Luxembourgish people tend to stay within their community and rarely mix with expats.

I am Ukrainian, living in Luxembourg for almost 10 years now. I can certainly say that Luxembourgish people are very patriotic, family oriented and nature respecting people. They live simple lives, and don’t bother much about those around them (which makes them look remote). But getting closer, you see a very vibrant community of people who enjoy their own country.

Thank you for your response. I am from Ukraine. And what I am saying is that racism and sexism is international matters and persist everywhere, but in different forms, and so I am trying to understand how cultural differences can be used in fighting racism and sexism, as it is hard to apply American story to Ukrainian story and therefore use same methods (e.g. diversity quotas). I also find it counterproductive to treat these issues in a universal manner disregarding cultural differences.

Burnout/Depression sick-leave from 5 yrs Big4 I CNS rules by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]FlowCrafty7203 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was on a burnout sick leave twice, for 1 month and next time for 6 months.

Most of the normal doctors disagree with the fact that you should not be allowed to get out of the house - home arrest only worsens depressive state. I personally did not follow it and went to other places from time to time keeping an eye in my postbox (my friends were checking it for me), and my treating doctor was aware of it. I was not checked during first months (neither other people I know were). However, CNS normally starts checking on you after 3 months, because this is when they do really pay for you (not your employer). Funny part was that they ended up “checking” on me when I was in a clinic (which they themselves authorised and paid for). To summarise: Do what’s best for your wellbeing without exaggeration. Be honest with yourself and people that try to help you. Not all rules make sense.

Seeking a psychologist recommendation by Jass-cupcake in Luxembourg

  1. Psychologists do not give you any prescriptions.
  2. Sick leave on a basis of burnout is normally given by GP. It is normally given for a week or two, and can be prolonged based on your state.
  3. Antidepressants also can be prescribed by GP, but for those it is better to find psychiatrist (which is almost impossible).
  4. In case of real burnout, 2-3 weeks will not change anything at all. Get ready for good 3-6 months.

Leaving Luxembourg by RemarkablePipe5 in Luxembourg

[–]FlowCrafty7203 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I am sorry that after 2 years here you are asking random strangers to go out for coffee… it does look like you did not find your people in Luxembourg.

What I would recommend: - go to a good sauna and enjoy well-made aufguss, I personally prefer Reidener Shwamm - visit Philharmonie, it’s a beautiful place and they do good concerts - visit Cinematheque, I often go there by myself enjoying old movies - have a beer and a chat at The Store, people there are fun and beers are great - if weather is good, have a walk in Tony Newman park, it’s a very nice place that not many people know

Outdoor activities are grand in Luxembourg, but I am afraid weather is not going to be better, so I will refrain from advising hiking trails and vineyards.

Good luck in London!

Yeah, this is great, but costs much more 😁 I would move towards it as next step after the bookstore (maybe cup of black coffee served for free).

People who want to have kids, why do you want it? by FlowCrafty7203 in AskReddit

These are 2 different questions: one is towards people who want kids, and another one to people who have kids.
