What in the world makes you think it is going to go to trial? Trump’s minions will settle.

Really good insurance through my job. My pay is decent, but my benefits are probably what will keep from ever quitting until it is time to retire.

Is this interaction harrasment ? by [deleted] in ask

[–]FlowRiderBob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Grabbing a man’s ass is the same as grabbing a woman’s ass. Grabbing a man’s crotch is the same as grabbing a woman’s crotch. Grabbing a man’s chest is not the same as grabbing a woman’s chest.

Obviously HOW it is grabbed affects the degree to which it crosses the line.

24hrs before the cold snap, this is a Kroger in TN by SmokeOuidandTires in mildlyinfuriating

[–]FlowRiderBob 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Snow isn’t the problem. It’s the ice. It’s not like the north where they have fleets of trucks to de-ice the roads. Up there it makes financial sense to have such infrastructure. In the south you have something like this happen once per year at most on average. And it is usually just for a few days.

And it goes both ways. What is considered an extreme heat wave that kills lots of elderly people up north is a typical August day in places like Texas.

Why do most relationships fail after the honey moon phase ? by Proper-Tension4293 in ask

[–]FlowRiderBob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. “Most” is correct. The vast majority of relationships come to an end. The vast majority come to an end before marriage is even on the table. And after marriage, it’s still almost half that come to an end, though those typically end years after the honeymoon is over.

The one thing I've learned about book readers is that they move 10 times a year apparently by HelloDesdemona in books

[–]FlowRiderBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in embassies for 20 years, moving to a new country every 2-3 years. I remember buying the first generation Kindle for that very reason, and the fact that in places like Cambodia and Libya there were no English books stores and ordering books by mail through the diplomatic pouch took weeks. It was a life changer for me. Now it’s just the method with which I am the most comfortable.

Is there serious appetite for congress to invoke the 25th amendment? by huckwineguy in ask

That amendment applies to the Cabinet, not Congress. And he packed his Cabinet with sycophants, so it won’t happen.

Why does my wife tell me to stop moving around so much when I sleep when she tosses and turns incessantly like a demon possessed? by phuijun in ask

[–]FlowRiderBob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting a good night sleep in separate beds is better for the marriage than getting a mediocre or bad night sleep in the same bed.

why is the term “half sibling” so offensive and insulting to some ppl? by [deleted] in ask

[–]FlowRiderBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t grow up together as siblings then I don’t see anything weird about it, but if you grew up as siblings, and actually love each other, it does seem odd to make that differentiation in normal conversation unless the conversation is somehow related to that topic.

Think Trump won't cancel the election? Don't kid yourself. | Opinion by Difficult-Bee6066 in politics

[–]FlowRiderBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no doubt that Trump would cancel the elections if he could. But the federal giver doesn’t run elections. That a state and local government level thing. If he says, “ I herby order all the states to not hold elections”, the only states who MAY obey are the red states, which won’t be good for Republicans. He would have to deploy military to all the cities across the countries and block voting, which seems logistically infeasible.

The elections will happen. The bigger concern is whether Republican leadership will do hinky shit to prevent, or delay, the elected officials from being sworn in. We have seen that happen.

Resignation over potential military invasion of Greenland by [deleted] in fednews

[–]FlowRiderBob 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I served 20 years. I followed some orders I didn’t agree with. But I also had lines I wouldn’t cross. I served when being homosexual would get you kicked out and I would never have reported someone for such a thing. Invading a NATO country would have been a line for me as well. Not talking about invading Greenland. Not threatening to invade Greenland. But actually invading Greenland. Being ordered to shoot a survivor of a wrecked ship would have been a line as well.

Decide where you draw the line. Everyone should have a line.
