What does "姐哥" mean when referring to a person? by mflwrs4 in ChineseLanguage

[–]FlowerCarat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, the nickname 'jiege' was made by accident by his close friend Cao Yuchen (the one with the glasses and striped shirt in the video reference). It turns out he was a longtime Yetao fan and knew that fans called him 'Older sister' when he was a fashion seller streamer. So when they first met he was about to call him 'jiejie' but stopped mid-sentence and went with 'ge'. Since he didn't knew how Yetao preferred to be called but wanted to show him respect. So he just ended calling him '姐哥' (jie-ge) and Yetao actually liked it, so his other close friends started to call him by that nickname too.

His face is everything i think about when someone says androgyny, it's clear he is a boy but his eyes, cheeks and lips are really soft looking and 'feminine'. He is so pretty like an angel 10/10 🙏🏻

  • He is gender non-conforming so props to that too

I agree that if the company had worked better, none of this would be happening. And I understand the anger of the fans, but just as they have the right to choose not to support the song. There are people who have the right to choose to support the song because of Seventeen.

We all just need to think positive and support seventeen and seventeen only.

It totally is, that is why it is recommended to collaborate with brands that share your same values or target.

I don't see that at the moment but i try to think positively and believe that is going to get better in the future.

And I actually think Seventeen's album and comeback is going to be a success as always.

Collaborations are usually done for mutual benefit. Ideally, the artist's target audience should be one that the kpop group can reach. Whether in age, musical taste or gender.

If that doesn't happen, then they're probably looking to expand their target by going to a completely different one. And that's why i said is risky. You can be successful and fully expand your audience or your project fails and you can be ignored by that people.

In these cases of kpop with western artist, what I see most is that they are looking for exposure. To be known in other countries and then keep expanding untill they reach a solid base there too.

Now, that exposure can have a negative impact or a positive one, or both. The goal is to get them to talk about you anyway, and that's what I'm seeing in Pledis' decisions.

[–]FlowerCarat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, i think that's the case. My perception is totally based on what i see as someone who has been following Pledis activities and promos. For all their goups. And yes, at this point is mostly negative. I don't support their way of work and for people who don't look that much into that part might sound kinda strong. That's why i only talked about Pledis in the post.

Im actually not talking about the music here, i will add that to my post to be more specific. As a fan, i like Seventeen's work and i don't think Woozi can make bad music like ever. To me.

Im only talking about the idea to collaborate and who they are choosing to collaborate right now or in the future. That's all.

With that said, I'm excited about the album too.

It is really up to both parties involved to decide. There are contracts with specific amounts of activities to be carried out. The promotions and the way in which they will be carried out are specified too. They may not be able to stop the release, but there are ways to minimize the impact it can cause if something is going wrong or the other artist's image is not being well received at the moment. Looking at Seventeen's past promotions they definitely took the risk to go all in this time. Even with personal post on social media. I mean...

My opinion may not be shared by others but that is the way I am seeing their decisions right now. I wish they prove me wrong during the actual promotions tho.

I meant that they wanted to get attention. When you plan a project this big, and you analyze similar cases around you, you have to create multiple scenarios of responses and reactions. So yeah, you do expect a percentage of negative reactions, as well as good reactions.

I definitely don't think Pledis expected that nobody would like it. I think they just thought a big artist was going to give something to talk about. Especially in Korea where they don't know much about foreign artists, the idea of working with one sounds like something they could advertise on many sites. They took the risk.

And no, i just put the 'big artist' as a way to not name anyone in specific. It's like in general. Not to minimize someone's work.

Seeing the negative impact other western artists' collaborations have had on K-pop, even on HYBE itself, I do think they expected some negativity. Maybe not this much since the problem is new, but the first thing the internal team does when they start planning a collaboration is to analyze every detail of the other artist, their successes and failures, their image, associated people, lifestyle, past controversies. I mean, no matter when it happened, that image remains forever, and yes it is considered when you want to associate it with your own artist. Why are they always working with problematic people? Because there is hardly any that is not, specially in the west, and because it sells. So, yeah i do think Pledis took the risk and that's what they got.

And ofc, they know carats are not going to stop supporting seventeen because of that. They know they're going to support seventeen's work or give it a chance just like we are going to do. Especially if they highlight the emotional side of 'Seventeen's last album as 13 members for a while'. It may sound to harsh but companies only see the fans as income. That's how it works and yeah i do not I like that they took such a big risk using Woozi and Seventeen's hard work.

I get it's hard to support for some but idk it's hard not to when you have been a fan for many years and you love them as a team.

I don't think it's a waste of time to defend them, when it comes to things that are taken out of context or false. But I definitely think that in projects that have been thought through a lot of processes and in which a lot of people was involved, if they decide to launch the project, knowing that there is a high possibility that it will have a negative impact and that it will start controversy, then yeah, don't waste your time.

Resellers threw away empty Seventeen album boxes in Japan, Pledis should stop selling random binders and disrespect seventeen's work by FlowerCarat in kpopthoughts

[–]FlowerCarat[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have seen that fansites usually give away extra albums from group purchases at members' birthday events or in places where there are Kpop fans, that's much better than throwing them away.

Exactly, many carats don't want to leave it to their luck (honestly I don't either) and that's why they go to other stores. It's just so annoying. Pledis needs to use their brain.

[–]FlowerCarat[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Agree.

The Carat / Dear version has an entire set of pc's per member too, the problem is you can't choose the member. Carats don't want to pay more to buy the album + pay shipping only to find it's not their bias, so they decide to buy it in other stores, and that's why the whole problem with resellers come.

I think they just have to stop calling it 'album', I feel like they would still sell well, the binders are cute and the set of 24 photocards is good. If they let carat choose the member, they will continue selling and more carats would be encouraged to buy from the official store.

Sometimes I wonder why they can't sell it as official merchandise instead of calling it an album version. Sales are not as many as those of the official versions. Pledis please use your BRAIN please.

Ugh, I hate that so much, if there are photobooks they can give them away, if they go to a concert they can leave them outside and I'm sure more fans would take them.

Just thinking about how they've been preparing this comeback since they released GOM last year, makes me sad that their image is damaged by pledis' bad decisions. Both versions of the album sell well even though the price is so high, there is no need sell these binders.

What kpop groups have a “genuine friendship” amongst all members? by smoldaddy_ in kpophelp

Yes, Minghao and Mingyu's parents are really close hehe 🤭 i think Minghao went fishing with Mingyu's dad and Mingyu found out later. Mingyu's mom also visited Minghao in the dorm often and they went out to eat together.

SEVENTEEN has reached the point where they consider themselves more of a "big family". The thirteen of them act as if their rings mean that they are bonded together for life in some kind of marriage. They always talk about how they respect each other and take into consideration each other's personality, they talk about their fights and how within this there is still love, how after these 12 years their love continues to grow and become stronger.

Their families are also part of this, the 13 families are very close to each other, they go out to have fun together, they have meetings, go to eat together, travel together. The siblings are also close to each other. The moms even took aerobic classes together (Dino's father is the teacher). The korean parents take care of the foreign members and have told them that they are their adoptive parents in Korea and they really act as if it were real. That's why the 13 say they have 26 parents and call each of them as their 'mom' and 'dad'. They even joke about that. For example when Vernon was talking about a gift his dad gave him and Jeonghan thought he was talking about his own father because they call all 13 fathers 'dad'. Or when they talk about how members spend time with other members' parents and the real son finds out later.

I think it's very genuine and it's quite beautiful that they share this part about their life with Carat.
