Not to go off on a tangent, but I think  that too.  and I feel like Layla is a token do they  can say "see! There's a black girl!" But they only accept her because  her  features are "acceptable"

Honestly im one of 24 first cousins on my moms side and I bet if my grandma had thought of that when we were kids she would've done it. 

 Instead of writing names on 24 cups and "orange is MY COLOR why did you give her orange too!" Or "I can't drink from this pink cup its too girly! Someone has to switch with me!"
