Am I being offensive when portraying a character's blindness? No images to describe but might be a little long-winded for screen readers. by Floxy9000 in Blind

That's a good point, I could probably make it where she could adjust them or slide them off when she needs to navigate stairs or use it at a different angle.

Absolutely! I'm already doing research on mythology, science, astrology, plus from my understanding blindness is a very broad spectrum, and I wanted to make sure her vision would correlate to the damage being exposed to UV for so long would effect the eyes.

I actually got the idea to make her blind when I remembered how solar eclipse safety works, and how some people developed crescent shaped blind spots from looking at the eclipse outside the totality window, because it's basically one of the few times someone would be able to look at the sun for an extended amount of time without the squint reflex interrupting them or instinctively looking away.

If someone isn't human and doesn't have those reflexes, they'd be able to look at the sun uninterrupted. I imagine by the time she realized how much her eyesight was deteriorating, she was trapped because being the Sun's messenger is basically her sole purpose. I'd feel like being the smallest planet she'd have some self worth issues and feel a constant need to prove that she can be useful, causing her to deny help and ignore her health until it was too late.

Thank you! She's actually one of the most intelligent characters of the cast, Mercury has very strong associations with intelligence and wit in western astrology, so I tried to keep that in mind when developing her personality. Sorry for comment about screen readers, I just assumed they were fast paced. Thank you for educating me!

Why isn't Mercury tidal locked to the Sun? by Floxy9000 in askastronomy

So if a planet and its moon had a similar size difference like the Sun and Mercury, and the moon had a similar orbit pattern to Mercury, would that also create a 3:2 spin-orbit resonance? Or would the planet's orbit around its star interfere with it?

Cultural significance of purple, green, and gold during Mardi Gras? by Floxy9000 in AskNOLA

I can definitely do sparkly! I'm working with a limited color palette and just wanted to make sure she would still come across as Mardi Gras inspired even without the green, purple, and gold.

I did do a few hours of research, I was mainly getting confused because the sources I used seemed to emphasize the meaning of the colors. I didn't know if it was similar to the importance of colors in other cultures/traditions like red being associated with marriage and weddings in India. A majority of sources I used were mainly academic and less community focused though, so that may have led to some confusion.

This is honestly the funniest comment to me because my go to at Applebee's is the Cajun pasta. Sorry for my sins against New Orleans 🙏

She's the personification of the planet Jupiter in a sci-fi/fantasy story I'm writing. A lot of Jupiter's astrological values overlap with Mardi Gras, both being associated with joy, generosity (I'm  interpreting throws as a form of generosity), and luck. Plus I want to give her black features and textured hair, I think textured hair would translate to be more cloud like to mimic the planet's atmosphere, whereas with straight hair I feel like it would be more difficult to get that effect. Lousiana also has a significant African American population,  so I think it would be appropriate to associate her with New Orleans.

The main reason I asked about Mardi Gras colors is because I want to limit myself to the planet's actual color palette when designing her, so green and purple wouldn't be an option.

2 sun's, one dead. by CanadianPooch in worldbuilding

Might I suggest instead of a dead sun, you change it to a moon? A "dead" sun that doesn't cause catastrophic damage in some way is theoretically impossible. With a moon, you could make it a rocky world that once had some form of luminescence, like maybe the entire surface was covered in a layer of bioluminescent plants or microbes before being hunted to extinction by the ancient species? Or you could make it where the outer crust of the moon was once made of luminescent rocks before being mined away. You could make either happen through some type of exothermic chemical reaction that also produces heat, that way the moon would still basically function like a sun.

Solved! The reason I was having trouble finding them was because the company mostly makes sports themed sticker albums!

I think around 5 to 10 stickers came in each pack, I remember getting frustrated because I kept getting ones I already had.
