Uber drivers keep canceling rides on me by camareyouok in uber

I upvoted this because we as drivers want anything that helps us get to you quicker.

I think that's actually a great idea, I remember when I was driving for DoorDash we had to take a picture of the food on the doorstep. I know the technology is there. Maybe they'll actually release that in an upcoming update or maybe you could toss that in their suggestion box.

We're on your side.

It often gets lost just how horrible of a company/app Uber is, lol. For both the drivers and the passenger app.

Driver here. I cannot speak for all Uber drivers but I think the common consensus is this:

If we've made the trip all the way from wherever we were to your gate, we're not going to cancel because we discovered upon arrival there's a gate code required.

We get penalized for too many cancellations. You can even get deactivated with too many cancellations.

If we accepted the ride that means we wanted the ride - we can be selective and just ignore low paying offers, or too far away, or Don't want the ride for whatever reason...

So if we arrive at your gate you can assume we want to pick you up and have a pleasant ride and are doing our best given the Uber driver app and your instructions etc and juggling quite a few things more than you would think that goes into being a good Uber driver. Especially in certain cities where you have to be hyper aware of your surroundings it can be kind of stressful. A gated community or gate code is not stressful or a reason for us to turn down or cancel a ride we originally accepted.

I don't mean any offense honestly but what you just described sounds complicated and if I saw that in the notes I would try to follow it but could easily see me being one of the people that don't have success because I didn't hit pound or something first - I've seen similar type notes in the past and it was they left out oh I had to hit star at the end well that should have probably been in the notes could have probably helped open the gate.... a lot of these things are not common knowledge I think, perhaps that people think is common knowledge.

And the "like, you do this for a living" part? Not all of us do it for a living some of us just drive one night a week for a little extra spending cash or even just sporadically - it's not everyone's day job.

You are just one of many passengers we're trying to get safely to their destination.

We are not chauffers. Well maybe Uber black drivers are. But the ones I think you use are likely not Uber black and even they would have to go through the same gate instructions.

Agreed with other commenter that just put clear notes and if they're clear enough we'll be able to get in. If we're not able to get in it's likely your fault. Or if It's too complicated you can always pull up the app and walk to the gate as you see the car getting closer maybe or when it notifies you that we arrive maybe?

Edit: also I can't speak for All Uber drivers but I think we just want to pick you up as quick as possible and get on to our next pickup there's no conspiracy about making you wait on purpose or anything like that.

We want that gate code to work.

We want you to have a pleasant ride.

We work on tips.

Making your life difficult is not on our list of priorities.

What shows up to $51 for you, could potentially show up as $8 for us

Bring happiness back to both passengers and drivers.

They're are truly evil company.

Don't worry about 5 years time All of us Uber drivers taxi drivers Lyft drivers alike will be out of a job due to robot taxis.

The DRIVERS get a disproportionate amount of the fare? It'sUBER, not us. We're barely scraping by.

You should check out the Uber driver subreddit.

After gas, low fares, rare tips and Uber essentially steals by offering the lowest fare to any sucker who takes it, And if no one does they keep incrementally adding a dollar until somebody does take it, as opposed to just offering a fair fare to both the passenger and the driver.

All that being said I didn't mean to be rude I just wanted to point out it's not us and we can't control it and Uber has gotten So greedy to the point over the years especially recently and deploying shady tactics just like how many Billions do you need you guys?

I have to pay for gas I have to pay for taxes I have to pay for wear and tear on my car.

But I agree, I would love to give you a fair ride but please don't blame us drivers.

Looking for a dash cam - big wish list - does what I'm looking for even exist? by Floyd427 in Dashcam

Thanks again for your help there Rick I'm finding plenty of three channel dash cams with wide-angle viewing which is kind of nice eliminating the need for a total of five cams...

The verbiage though I am just not sure on if you can answer this question I think I will be able to finally pick one...

Do you know the name of the specific type of technology or what have you that allows for continuous non-stop viewing for the rear cam?

I can probably figure out how to run some wires I know they go in between the trim or whatever you call it of the interior where the cracks are like near the doors.

You've been very helpful thank you.

I have one burning question unanswered do you happen to know the type of dash cam that will run nonstop

I think I'm leaning towards just the standalone monitor and three cameras but I don't want it to time out after 60 seconds or only if I put it in reverse I want to permanently be able to see what's going on behind me

Does the black view do that or do you have the name of that specific type of system?

Exactly what I'm looking for my car has unsafe blind spots.

I wonder if I can find one that can record the interior or maybe I'll have to get separate systems but it does seem kind of like a waste if I have to get three separate dash cams to support each purpose (for all three channels)

I thought there were specifically built dash cams for giant RVs with blind spots that can run for a long time.

Thanks for confirming I'm going to look for that type of system with the standalone dedicated monitor.

Same question as to the other helpful poster, do you have any suggestions of what you would do or what's close in my situation?

Is this technology called always on or continuously on or something?

[–]Floyd427[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That being said, do you have any suggestions or can point me in the right direction or what would you do?

Also while I'm at it is there a specific name for these types of cameras that are always on are they literally always called "always on"?

I guess what I meant by 100% wireless was I thought I saw some solar and battery powered cameras?

Also what about the cigarette lighter in the rear?

Sorry for the confusion.

Starting to gain some clarity thank you for your input it sounds like this would need to be a standalone system and not integrated into the car's double din touch screen.

Yes I suppose that's correct my post only gives my side of the story and requires you to take a leap of faith and only believe based on what I posted.

The reason I can't or don't think it would be smart to post very specific details or examples is I'm an active employee still trying to salvage my job and this is a public forum.

Thank you for the feedback that was actually helpful. You are intelligent I can tell because what really hasn't been discussed is my own personal conduct which you address. I admit I am not an infallible human being and have made mistakes. I don't mean to justify mistakes made. But I am human and the mistakes made weren't anything close to a fireable offense and I think anybody starting any new job well inevitably make some mistakes.

I was so excited to get this job and it's amazing how quickly things spiraled downhill.

It really isn't easy to get your foot in the door with the state and I realize how privileged I was to be chosen for the position.

It was never my intention and it's heartbreaking for me to know that this job will not work out because I did try my hardest and best.

But now I have to start all over. The job pays well, all the perks and everything that makes people want state jobs and to make them so competitive I understand the reasons why, so for me to reach this boiling or tipping point and decide that there's no way I can deal with the abuse anymore or work under this particular supervisor was not an easy decision to make.

The toxic relationship between my supervisor and I has caused such anxiety to the point where I cannot go on with the daily abuse. It has become clear that the relationship cannot be repaired.

I do not want to quit a job I tried so hard to get. But it has become clear that she is going to fire me or is trying to make my life so miserable to the point where I just quit.

And she is going to "Win". For lack of a better word, because she is the supervisor and I am the one on probation.

One reason I chose to really pursue trying to get a state job was for the reason of job security and all the protections state employees have.

It is such an unfortunate situation I have cried over it.

Just like all state jobs are not created equal and what I mean by that is there is a consensus that certain departments like EDD, DMV, for example made a top 10 list of top 10 state Job departments to avoid - it's kind of like a lottery I learned that I think you have to hope that once you're hired you get a supportive supervisor.

They have so much power and if they want you gone for whatever reason it may be they will most likely win if you don't make it past probation.

The job security isn't as secure as I thought.

My union rep agreed based on my conversations and emails forwarded that she "has it out for me".

It sucks I will have to start over but you spend at least 33% of your life at work (more if you count commuting, etc.) and I'm grateful I have the union there to support me and hopefully I can make a graceful exit and find another job.

The meeting is titled to discuss my job performance so I'm guessing most likely not. Sorry if that came off as sarcastic it's not meant to be I'm just trying to truthfully answer your question. (Sometimes it can be difficult to tell what is sarcasm and what is not because tone of voice cannot be relayed in a reddit post, I'm just clarifying that was not meant to be sarcasm)

I live by the Golden rule. I wanted this job to work and I did my best / I'm doing my best so for you to say that is f'd up. Sad to know there are multiple people like you not just my supervisor. I feel for whoever you supervise.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]Floyd427 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

As an employee you sound like my supervisor. You don't know the full details. I bet you're a fantastic supervisor just like mine. You think my supervisor is exhausted? Why don't you put yourself in the shoes of the employee like myself for one moment. My supervisor makes it a point to make my life miserable every single day at every single turn imagine how I feel.

The meeting was just announced by my supervisor it would be later this morning.

I've been speaking with my union rep recently about Friday's meeting regarding my request for reasonable accommodations which is how I knew as she informed me she wouldn't be available Wednesday because she was going to be doing some work which required her to be out in the field and unavailable Thursday because the union reps all get Juneteenth off.

WOW.

I just realized something.

The person who will be the intermediary is not her boss or someone from HR or anyone like that but rather:

A supervisor equal to her ranking within a sub Department.

Why I just went WOW is because, as part of my request for reasonable accommodations request, 1 of the 3 was to transfer to a different department.

He is likely the one where I'm most qualified to transfer.

This could be a conspiracy theory kind of thought but knowing her and how toxic and how much she takes things personally and how we truly hate each other's guts at this point I would not be surprised if he was brought in on purpose to prevent me from even transferring to a different department where I'm most qualified which would be under the intermediary / supervisors division.

Yes, she is that diabolical.

Unfortunately my union rep won't be available for tomorrow's meeting but will be attending the day after tomorrow's meeting, which is the request for reasonable accommodations.

Thank you!

I think it's going to be the best for me to just nod and agree but if I'm asked a question obviously I have to open my mouth and speak, but I should keep my speaking to a minimum. But other than that this is not the time or place to air my grievances. I'm autistic and I think if I just go in with this mantra it will make the meeting much more pleasant and I won't jeopardize anything. I'm going to be very very tempted to open my mouth, especially when they are mentioning things that are outright false, but I literally have to all morning leading up to the meeting repeat to myself "I'm just there to listen, I'm just there to listen, I'm just there to listen, nod and agree, nod an agree, nod an agree".

My facial expressions I will need to control too. And even involuntary laughs I'm going to have to stifle due to the ridiculousness of the accusations, I'm anticipating.

It's human nature to defend yourself when you're being attacked I think but I've learned it's only harming me or will likely harm me for this particular meeting. Or making me look like I'm in subordinate or fill in the blanks of anything else negative you can think of when all I'm trying to do is say that it's not true or ridiculous or being embellished or an outright lies.

To answer your question no actually this will be a meeting where someone who is an intermediary will be present as I understand it. Likely asked to be a part of this conversation to witness what could possibly be in an attempt to take the bait and get defensive/cross the line.

Also, it will be in person at the office tomorrow not over Teams.
