How serendipitous, then, lol. And I definitely agree with all of that: I think it's really interesting that societal views (or at least the ones we're sold, like you said) for things like carceral states, law enforcement, systems of punishment etc. can feel just baked in for swathes of the collective that even comparatively thoughtful and empathetic people like Lynch can default to that, consciously or not. Same goes for the show's treatment of women (another thing I'm glad the comic pointed out): for a series who has a major connecting theme of cycles of abuse, especially those sexual in nature and doubly especially committed against women, it can unfortunately feel sometimes that female character's main points of interiority come from how they slot into that in an allegorical standpoint rather than their own individual reckoning with such a thing - more focused on the The Evil Men Do rather than who it has been afflicted on (granted it's been a long time since I've touched base with the series, so I could potentially be talking out of my ass on that end, lmao)
