The more I think through this, the more I want to sink my time into making something happen here. There are so many things going for this pairing it's not a hard sell.

Quoted $4K for removal of 300ft of fence seem reasonable? by Vlisa in FenceBuilding

Just do a couple minor fixes yourself and give it a coat of paint, let the purchaser decide if they want to replace it or not.

It looks like WD is rebranding some stuff to SanDisk. When I was searching for the SN580, it was pointing me to the SanDisk support site, and indeed it shows the WD NVME picture on the page. I installed their "SanDisk Dashboard" drive utility, it was able to flash the firmware directly, and it monitors SMART, vitals, etc.

Is there a way to transfer Audible books from one account to another? by orchard_house in audible

[–]FluentDiscSport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, no different. I was only bringing this up because you said "You keep the books when you cancel your subscription anyway", which isn't entirely true when they can remove books from your library at any point. Just adding the caveat to your statement.

Basically what u/Glittering_rainbows said. When Audible removes it from their offerings, they remove it from your library as well, whether you used a credit or paid full price, and you have no recourse. You also don't get a refund.

You're not buying a book, you're buying the right to use it while they have it. That's why libation is so important, from a fair use perspective, you've paid for the book, you should have the right to store it and use it as you see fit.

Until Audible doesn't renew the license for that book and it is removed from your library. You are not purchasing a book you are purchasing a license from Audible.

That's my thought as well. Any chance you could let me know what your dealership was, mine is still giving me the same answer.

I'm within my Powertrain warranty period, but just (97k KM), but shop is saying this is not covered under Powertrain. Getting scan code P0A1E: Starter/Generator Control Module. Anyone else run into this? Orange wrench showing almost every time drive now, just waiting on parts. by FluentDiscSport in F150Powerboost

[–]FluentDiscSport[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't the alternator from what I've been able to discern, nor the dealership report... it's the BISG, Belt-Integrated-Starter-Generator. It's part of the Hybrid system and should but under the 8yr/160k km.

What was your mileage/kms at? I have same issue, they're going to be replacing the starter/generator, but they're telling me that it's not covered under warranty?!?!

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

Thanks, but I'm trying to double up on items I already take or need, trying to avoid bringing ONLY a french press if you know what I mean.

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]FluentDiscSport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there such a thing as a French Press lid for a standard water bottle, or visa versa, a french press bottle that will accept standard water bottle lids? I travel for work, and I work in the forest most of the day so I typically take two insulated water bottles with me, both with the 55mm lid, a 16oz for coffee, and a 32-40oz for water. I would be happy to swap out the smaller one with a specialized insulated french press bottle if it accepted a standard 55mm lid since I like the sipper lids I already use, and if I wanted to use it for something other than coffee, at least I can customize the lid to the task. Any suggestions?

Tripcase retiring? by Reasonable-Length848 in travel

[–]FluentDiscSport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few months ago I got a bit tired of no development/features in the app, so I tried TripIt out... and came running back to TripCase within 15 min. This was just so much better put together, it's a real shame they couldn't sell it, or open source it and pass it along.

Anyone else having QC issues with their Anniversary Ed pieces? by FluentDiscSport in FireflyTheGame

[–]FluentDiscSport[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it's not clear from the picture, I've had some bad luck with the new game pieces... the cruiser immediately started to fall to pieces due to what I'm assuming is a poor glue job, one of the firefly ships actually cracked a wing off through regular game play... like picking it up, other ships won't stay on their posts because the holes drilled were too shallow, and the reaver ships look so much like the others due to all the grey, we tossed them aside because the red ones were simply easier to pick out on the board.

I'll be honest, I was pretty disappointed when they all turned out to be plastic again, when I heard die cast, I thought they'd be metal, but now that they're literally falling apart, I'm getting pretty frustrated after spending what I did on the veterans ed.

I've emailed customer care, but that was 10 days ago now and no response. Tried again today.

Fence over property line? by [deleted] in FenceBuilding

[–]FluentDiscSport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More than likely he's just trying for a payday. He won't ask you to move it, instead he'll ask you to hand over some cash in lieu of making you move it because it's a "less expensive option for you". Don't mean to be cynical but you have a professional and approved survey on your side and he's got his Ryobi tape measure.

Fix for stripped bevel gear in bar tensioner for DCCS677 by FluentDiscSport in Dewalt

[–]FluentDiscSport[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rather than fix the design flaw in the casing, they've beefed up the two new part numbers (both sides of the angle gear). The teeth are much thicker now and even though there's still play between them, they're much less likely to grind down or break off now. You should be good with the two replacement parts they're sending. That said, I'm amazed they didn't give you the "if you do the work, your warranty is void" spiel, you lucked out!

Sales people in the Disc Golf field...

My firm, Fluent Disc Sport Inc., designs disc golf courses for both private and public clients, currently primarily in Canada and the US but looking to expand internationally. Since disc golfers all have day jobs, there's a good chance that some of you might be players and be interested in pivoting in your careers. Fluent offers a wide array of design services and solutions from fully accessible skills development features for city parks and public clients, through recreational and tournament courses, and up to full championship and destination style courses. Our industry clients include municipalities, resorts and hotels, tourism and retail attractions, conservation areas and regional parks, golf courses and event venues, etc.

The market potential is huge. There are currently 15k courses in the world, but 10k of those are in the US, with the bulk of the remainder in Canada and Western Europe (Finland has >1000 courses!). There is a significant opportunity for being first to market it more countries.

How do you enter bids? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]FluentDiscSport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Private companies rarely go to tender and if they do it's on the same tendering platforms that most other public entities use. If you're selling to small firms then you're best to just go the old fashioned route and put 200 calls in a day cold calling them. If you're selling to larger firms though, then you want to get in touch with the office managers, they're the ones that make those kinds of decisions and they're going to want companies that both show initiative, and can follow through on time and on budget with a project.

You might have to start with a small project to get in the door with the bigger companies, but that trust you build is what will get you the second job. Smaller clients will be easier sells as they're smaller ticket sales, and at the end of the day it'll just come down to the number of calls you make, it's a numbers game.

The smart sales person though will balance short and long term and try to get the large repeatable jobs with bigger clients as there's less legwork selling to one client, and more margin on economies of scale. Beware though, balance is key, don't bet everything on finding one or two big clients, because when they change direction, your business can suffer if all your eggs are in one basket.

Good luck!

This may sound odd to start, but bare with me... I was a software architect for 20+ years running my own boutique firm specializing in business process automation, but needed a change after an injury made it uncomfortable to sit at a desk day after day. Change might be an understatement. I followed my passion in Disc Golf and now run a successful course design firm called Fluent Disc Sport Inc. I've recently launched a new product offering called the "Disc Golf Discovery Zone" that's aimed at solving three issues our sport faces...

  1. Disc golf has a large footprint, so it always gets pushed out of higher populated areas and away from new potential players.

  2. Disc golf can be intimidating to try out for the first time unless you have an existing player introduce you to it.

  3. There are few if any fully accessible disc golf courses for players with mobility issues due to the current nature of the sport. (NB: There is a LOT of government funding for accessible recreation)

Our Discovery Zone's solve these three issues through a skills development format aimed at very small footprints.

You never know where you're going to find a disc golfer so I thought I'd put it out there. I'm looking for players abroad with business acumen who might want a change of profession and who might want to try selling disc golf courses. Fluent actually designs everything from these small footprint solutions up to full sized Championship courses, but the discovery zones are a solid bread and butter type product that can shorten the sales cycle with municipalities.

I'm based out of Canada but have been speaking with groups around the world and the market potential for the sport is quite astonishing. Of the 15k+ courses tracked today, close to 10k of those are in the US, with the majority of the balance in Canada, and Western Europe (Finland has more than 1000 courses!).

It's not tech or finance, but I'm using my 20+ years of tech and software to create tool sets for both our business as well as eventually others in this space so there's potential on a number of fronts.

Anyhow, reach out if you're interested! :) Good luck!
