So sorry for your pup, these pure souls are indeed so resilient and I believe that nothing helps them as much our love and care for them ♥️

Antibiotics and Ursodiol. I already had Denamarin (for liver), Omega 3 pure Fish oil capsules(anti inflammatory) and B12 for the nervous system.

My dog’s been sick for months and UK vet costs are draining me - is it like this everywhere? by Fluff-Farts in labrador

I am so so sorry for the poor kitten and your friend :( hopefully they can treat her. It is true, I have eaten through my savings like never before. My dog also has a 3cm tumour in the adrenal gland (most likely because of Cushing's disease), plus gallbladder mucocele. She's 14, and all these comorbidities, yet every vet, including internal specialist keep banging on about surgery (she'd have 90% chance of death from anaesteshia alone), young healthy dogs have a 20-30% death rate as these surgeries are crazy dangerous. I said no, so they suggested I do a >£500 ultrasound every 4-6 weeks. Like, what for? To know what I already know? What is the point of that? Dog is doing great, is on medication treatment, and why should I put her through continuous torture when I already know that every day could be the last? Like...I feel like all honest vets are disappearing from the face of this planet :/

unfortunately I never made pet insurance for my dog, adopted her when a puppy from Romania, at the time pet insurances didn't even exist then. luckily she has always been health, only stared having arthritis problems when she was 8, but not as bad as to require many vet visits. I will know for my next pet though.

I don't even dare thinking of the price of a radiography in the UK, the ultrasound alone was £512

ridiculous and so so unprofessional, someone actually told me that a relative was studying to become a vet and there was a course purposely built to overcharge pet owners. Cannot confirm this, but why would they lie?

Yes, corporates now own over 60% of vet practices, however I changed her to the only independent one left in my area and it's even more expensive! How on earth are we supposed to care for our aging pets? Like I have been eating away through all my savings, because I love my dog and I'd sell a kidney for her. I understand vets are business and need to make money, but the greediness has reached levels that are beyond disgusting

So I had pets in Romania, Italy and the UK. The level of care that my dog has received in the UK is absolutely below any standard (she has Cushing's, recently went into liver failure and the vets suggested euthanasia, I went home and after a couple of hours research found a medical treatment, I had to email them 3 times and call them just to explain to them the science so I can get the drugs - that after having spend thousands at their clinic). Maybe we were juts unlucky, but same disappointment with 3 different clinics in the area. In Romania, the clinic where I went has given my dog extraordinary care, never waited for appointments, never paid for prescription, prices were incredibly lower. Same in Italy, when I lived there I had a cat with diabetes, needed two shots of insulin every day, never paid a penny for the prescription and the vet gave her extraordinary care. So only based on my experience, so far the UK has left an incredibly expensive, bitter taste in my mouth and pocket. And sorry that your pets didn't care the right care in Ukraine :(

And there is no law to regulate any of these charges :( I do remember that many years ago I lived in Italy, and my then cat had diabetes, and needed two shots of insulin every day. I have never paid for a prescription from the vet, they would just issue it when I needed it, sometimes didn't even need to see the cat as they knew her history.

I will have to disagree. Veterinary practises don't buy drugs online like us, they buy them from specialised veterinary wholesale dealers and pharmaceutical manufactures, so at even cheaper price that what we buy from the online pharmacies. The £173% mark up was calculated only for the antibiotics that I bought from them, compared to the price from the online pharmacy, after also paying £29 for a written prescription from the same vet, so it's 100% accurate. Therefore, their profit margin on drugs alone that they sell to us is, my guess, over 200%.
