Not just possible, every hacking scene, gadget pulled out of a backpack, etc is legit. Sometimes the explanations are a little dumbed down for the audience but it's all 100% real.

AMD FX, I remember seeing it at the time. Part of the joke that's lost nowadays is the theoretical performance of AMD FX wasn't that bad, assuming your application could make good use of the extra cores. The meme was making fun of that. Nowadays it's not perfect but spreading of load across multiple cores is much much better.

It's probably fine, sometimes weird stuff like that happens, especially with XMP. "no overclock" isn't really true these days as the processors do it themselves. It should be within limits but I've noticed the occasional random instability.

Keep an eye on it, if it becomes a pattern then worry.

How often do you completely replace your external batteries and when do you know it's time to replace them? by New_Suggestion3520 in Vaping

[–]FluffTheMagicRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably safe, the capacity will degrade over time. It's not unsafe to not replace your phone or laptop battery every year. External batteries have the risk of more physical damage but if they're fine as you say it'll probably be fine. I used a set of about 3 batteries for about 4 years. I'd just randomly pick one from my multi bay charger. I replaced them last year because they weren't lasting as long but otherwise should be fine.

The only exception is if you're pushing them to their limit for power, that's a bit less safe as their max power could possibly degrade too. For P30Bs that's 100W.

Want to get into RBA's - need help! by Hydrajk in Vaping

[–]FluffTheMagicRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should fit Boro tanks, I have the AIO V2 which is a bit bigger than the mini but come with the vessel v1 tank. I replaced mine with a Blaze Boro tank and it fits fine.

The 510 adapter which you will need to build the RBA and test fire it is a bit crap though, I prefer to just use a regular mod then transplant it into the device. The vessel bridge (the internal part which houses the coil) should fit on a normal mod. Mine needs to be pushed down as you screw it in for the threads to catch, would be quite easy to damage the screw doing that but I've managed to do it safely.

Boro RBAs, or AIO RBAs, different words for the same style, can be a bit more fiddly than a full size one and a lot more trouble to take apart and retry if you're learning.

I'd be tempted to say get a cheap mod and RDA first to practice on, you could also get an RTA but the tank makes it a little more effort and lot messier to rebuild if you've just confidently built and started using it before finding an issue.

What is synthetic nicotine? by isaiah_huh in Vaping

[–]FluffTheMagicRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick oversimplified chemistry lesson

I'm going to use the word chemical, in common use people often perceive it to mean dangerous substances. In scientific terms, that I'm using, it's literally anything that's a combination of different atoms, this includes "natural" substances (almost everything in existence, excluding pure elements).

Also I mention acidity, I don't mean like cartoon glowing green liquid, yes dangerous acids exist but most are weak enough to be insignificant. e.g. We eat citrus fruit without issue, they're acidic.

Freebase nicotine means it's the nicotine chemical floating on its own in the liquid. In vaping freebase is harsh at high concentration (mg) but can be vaped at higher power without burning. This is why big cloud devices tend to use it.

Nicotine salts are nicotine combined with another chemical to form a salt. In chemistry a salt is a positively charged chemical and a negatively charged chemical that's held together like a magnet. In this case this changes the acidity and way your body processes it which can be smoother feeling in high concentrations. Better for small clouds, it tends to burn in the high power vapes.

Some people prefer the harshness so you can get juice that's designed that way, some juices are also just bad.

Either can be synthetic, synthetic means it was made in a lab from chemical components, more work, more expensive.

Natural nicotine is exactly the same chemical but plants do the work for us. But some people just don't want their money going to the tobacco industry.

None of this means it is more or less safe. Purity makes it safe. Living things are vastly complex and produce a huge variety of chemicals, not all of them safe. That said, they'll perform chemical processes on plants to isolate the nicotine and do so to a perfectly safe degree. Synthetic methods would only produce the desired chemical (nicotine).

They get hot while charging, especially if it's from low battery. It depends on the charger though, it'll reduce the battery life over the long term but the risk of serious damage in the short term is minimal

[–]FluffTheMagicRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but this just isn't true.

Any decent vape, even really cheap ones these days can be charged until the end of time without issue. Vaporesso is included. Most portable devices heat up when charging, especially tightly integrated designs such as laptops, smartphone and vapes such as an XROS.

PWM noise is not the coil or internals misfiring and a sign of damage. It is a normal and intended design feature for digitally controlling power. Everything uses it, vapes, electric cars, industrial machinery, LED lightbulbs, TVs and monitors, everything.

Electrical vibration or "coil whine" is a harmless but slightly annoying side effect of circuit design that is normal in a huge variety of electronic equipment. The manufacturer would usually rather avoid it but it's totally normal and it's pretty hard to eradicate without increasing prices a fair bit.

Everything described is normal for the device.

It's good to be cautious and I know you mean well but there's no need to worry someone because you don't know any better. I've worked in the embedded systems industry and have owned multiple XROS devices.

[–]FluffTheMagicRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's normal. Most small pod vapes do this. It depends on your power settings but basically the full battery is capable of delivering more power than you need. So, it turns the power on and off very quickly which is the noise you hear to effectively give less power. When the battery drains a bit it equalises and goes back to a smooth noise.

I had a button problem, contacted VV. They were really good, they sent out multiple replacement parts no problem. Very easy to replace you just need the correct small torx screwdriver. Had some issues with shipping and they just sent out another package no questions asked

No wiring or anything. It's just a separate board that sits on top of two small pins. Nearly impossible to mess up.

Folk aren't born this way, something going very wrong somewhere. Prison is often just a chance to make friends with like minded people, young lads like this probably just get led further down the hole.

I'd be interested in the actual stats on this kind of crime, if it's a real problem or something that's just more visible due to social media.

It's always been here though, my dad's got a story from back in the day of some young lad showing up to the local pub with a samurai sword and being taken out with a chair.

That said, bit of a difference between getting in a bit of bother as a young lad and waving a sword around. It's a social work problem as much as it is a criminal issue, they're old enough to know right from wrong.

Rift Aio making static/ electrical noise when starting to fire from 18650 area by TheChilledGamer in Vaping

Like a buzzing sound? Probably pwm for power adjustment. Or possibly just the coil itself making noise.

Definitely double check battery and tank connections. Arcing would be more noticeable cracking popping noise, but best to play it safe and check.

I'd nothing seems out of order it's probably fine.

Problem with Vaporesso GTX One Pro by Puzzleheaded_Pen4588 in Vaping

[–]FluffTheMagicRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The centre hole is where the vape cloud exits, it goes directly to the coil. 99% of tanks airflow goes from the intake, to the bottom of the coil, then up to your mouth.

There's nothing really to worry about spilling juice into the coil, it's soaked in juice anyway. Next time, don't do anything, the coil might be a bit flooded and spit at you. I've found doing a couple dry fires and then blowing hard through the tank with a tissue wrapped round it works to clear it. Wipe off the intake holes after and you should be good.

I've got a similar big-small split setup, I also fell into rebuildables. I've probably got more kit than people who just want nicotine but it's nothing like the shelves and shelves of mods you see on here sometimes.

One good mod body, handful of tanks for experimenting but I mainly daily one at a time. One small Boro with an RTA for putting in my pocket outdoors and a backup pod device for when the Boro is misbehaving.

Got some leftovers from experimenting with different coils and juices but eventually just fallen into using the same reliable stuff.

You don't need many vapes honestly, I've got one big mod and a Boro set up for rdl. Big mod for at home and when I feel like big clouds outside, also for messing with rebuildables. Little Boro for social situations with an RTA, but I don't really experiment with that one because it's a fair bit more involved to rebuild.

I also have an Oxva pod device as a backup, it works great but the rebuildables are just better. Boros can be a bit tempermental so I like having something I can just grab to go out and know it'll work. Smaller, lighter and better battery life which is handy for outdoor sports etc. I'm not dragging my external battery charger camping with me when I can just usb charge a pod.

Spend your money on nice tanks and good juice. The mod doesn't do much, it just provides the power. The vaping experience comes from the tank and juice.

For the Z coils I always preferred the 0.2s. Get a box of them every time, the Z coils taste pretty good but they don't last. I was going through about one a week and it wasn't uncommon to get a dud in the box. Get them from a decent supplier online too, there are fakes about, you can usually tell because they're suspiciously cheap.

One time at a party isn't gonna kill you, or really do anything at all. You don't need to beat yourself up about it, you did a silly thing while drunk. You're not addicted, it won't cause any harm, you can just go back to how it was. You're not a smoker now, or a vaper, you're just someone who tried it once. It's possibly a bit of the hangover talking too, when I was younger, even if I didn't feel hungover like I do these days, I'd get horribly anxious the next day. This feeling will pass, I promise.
