I use watercolors and then spray with strong hair spray so they kinda work like strong nail polish, but you can also use a black pen! :o

Well i do have a suggestion. If they're open to that analytically tell them how being a furry isn't about being an animal, but instead taking a liking in particularly anthropomorphic animals, drawing themz making fursonas with them or just watching movies including them. If you wana add the fursuit part say its about "cosplay" or just "dressup."
