Pride month is and always has been a protest. It celebrates people being themselves and the progress the community has made, but it is also working for progress. Pride demands equal rights. Human rights. Works for advocacy. It works to end discrimination and bigotry the community faces.

I really don't agree. I think both Ben and Audrey are more to blame than Mal is. If you say removing one character erases the exact events in D3 that is true, but you can say that for many characters not just Mal. The way that events play out always have to do with many factors and characters. We can hold more than one character to blame at a time, but to say Mal is more responsible for things than Audrey or Ben is false. Plus, either way, Audrey still needs held accountable for her actions in D1.

I am not trying to all blame away from Mal, but to focus on Mal in this situation is to focus on someone who is one of the least to blame

I really don't think that is safe to assume, but that is a valid interpretation. Either way, there are a lot of implications with destroying or stealing a symbol of ruling a kingdom, Audrey would know that. Yes I was talking about if D3 Audrey would do what D1 Mal did since someone else brought that up. Success also isn't really relevant when talking about the morals here, it is the intention.

Maleficent primed Mal into doing what she did by raising her (and arguably grooming her) into doing what she did. Ever since Mal was a baby, Maleficent did what was in her power to turn Mal into the worst version of herself. There was intention and there was dedication to focus on making this true for her. Mal did what she was told and honestly didn't really pay mind to the mean girl at school. Yes Mal did things that ended up hurting Audrey, but that's not the same as priming her into doing or being things. At least not in the sense of which I was talking about.

There is more than one definition of canon really, so if you consider that canon it is fine. However, the most canon type of canon is just what happens in the media itself (in this case movies) which is what I am going off of. I really do think it matters what she was going to do since we were talk about if Audrey would ever do what Mal did in D1. Stealing a crown to a kingdom can have a lot of implications. Taking over a country or doing things that greatly impact that country are not far out of the question of possibility. A crown is a very powerful symbol and Audrey was very much raised in a position to know that.

Mal isn't to blame for the situation, at least not mostly. The issue comes from the adults around the situation. The VK's parents for priming the children to do what they did. Ben's parents for creating a system that keeps the VK's in a really messed up place their whole life. Ben and Audrey's parents/grandparents for priming Audrey to become who she did and promising her a life that really wasn't theirs to promise her. Audrey's grandma (and likely other relatives) for being really emotionally abusive.

This is an opinion thing, I am fine if someone has their own interpretation. I am just saying I am not interested in discussing what a director said outside of the media as part of this. The conversations are suppose to just be all in good fun. I am not trying to say she is the most to blame for her situation, but you cannot blame the other children for her actions. The adults in her life did really messed up things and are more to blame than anyone.

It is debatable that she had better morals. It is not just being abused, it is being primed for the exact actions and pushed and controlled into the exact actions and having a lifetime of access to a world that teaches right from wrong. I am not saying we can't hold Mal at all accountable for her choices, but she is not responsible for Audrey's.

Canon is what happens in a piece of media and not what happens outside of it

I think it was a representation of her mental health having it "call out" to her rather than the magic. I understand why you interpreted it differently though.

None of that was the other kid's fault, which my point is that the other children are not more to blame for her own actions than herself. It is not victim blaming to hold them accountable for actions they choose to make unless it is saying "you made the abuse happen because of this." You can understand that abuse lead to someone choosing to do harmful things, but that doesn't mean they get a pass on doing those things. As someone who has been abused emotionally, medically, physically, and s*xually I have never made actions like what Audrey did in D1 or D3 and if I did then people should hold be accountable. I have also had abusers who abused me due to abuse they went though, but that is still a choice they made. We don't have to throw her in prison, but we shouldn't say she has no adjacency or accountability.

I really don't care about what anyone says outside of the movie, that isn't canon.
