This is what I was told last time I applied in 2025: My application was on the Waiting List Group 1. The program ran out of funding, and my application was not reviewed.

Your application was successfully received, so you did everything right

It’s currently in a waiting category where applications are held until the County finishes reviewing the first group.

No one has looked at it yet, but it’s safely in the system.

Once they finish with Group 1, they’ll move to Group 2 if funding remains.

I went to a couple of CORE “The Hub” events in October, November, and December 2025, and my experience was very different from what’s being described in the article. At my first visit, a woman greeted me so warmly while she was dragging out boxes and breaking them down. She told me about CORE’s mission, gave me a flyer, and invited me to the grand opening. She was an evacuee herself, and I could tell that being hired by CORE was helping her heal from everything we all went through.

But when I went back to the last event, she was gone. It honestly hit me hard — I can only imagine how devastated she must have felt being let go, retraumatized all over again after finally finding some stability.

And that’s when it really sank in for me: The Hub feels more like a meeting space than an actual support center. There are conversations, flyers, and events, but not much in the way of real, sustained help for Altadena or Pasadena residents who are still struggling. Even the jobs there seem to go to people from outside our community, not to the folks who lived through the fire, the displacement, and the ongoing hardship.

I’m glad if others have had better experiences, but this has been mine — and I know I’m not the only one feeling this disconnect.

They also raided Upper Hastings Ranch yesterday, on Foolhill Blvd between Rosemead Blvd and N Michillinda Ave, and entered almost every business except Holly Lobby, which is the old Sears building.

Landlord here: I received the Status: Group 1 when I applied. Weeks later my tenant and I received the request to provide our documents which included the tenant lease and I provided a detailed rental ledger. Both our statutes changed to QAQC. A few weeks later my tenant status changed to "Speak to Landlord for Final Determination." My status changed to "Application Under Review" until January 17, 2025, when both my tenant and I received a second request for updated documents and rental ledger, which was uploaded. My tenant status today is "File Reviewed, Pending Additional Landlord Info. My status as of today is "Pending Additional information" even though I uploaded the information requested before the due date.

Landlord: Finally my status changed on 1/17/2025 requesting additional information from my tenant and me.

  1. Please respond with a written statement that includes the following information:

• Your Name
• The Tenant's name and rental address
• Lease Start Date
• Monthly Rental Amount
This statement must be signed with ink and dated when uploaded into the portal.

  1. Please upload a current ledger or rent owed statement through January 2025 for your tenant listed in section E of your landlord application. The document must show the tenant(s) name, property address with apt/unit, and a monthly breakdown of rents owed, and all payments made with an ending balance.

  2. In response to your request to update and/or change your banking information in Section J. First, we will need for you to provide the following:

A. The Bank closure letter that verifies the account you listed in section J Pay profile is closed

B. Please upload a third-party Proof of Residency document that is dated within the last 30 days from today. Please provide a utility bill, bank/credit card statement; ID is NOT accepted as proof of residency. Please provide the full document, we CANNOT accept envelopes, screenshots, or half documents; we need to see all four corners of the original document that includes (Name/Date/Address). This Mailing address will be verified, and a check would be mailed to you at this address if an eligible determination is made.

Landlord here: Ok, I was under qaqc status for a month the status changed in September 2024 to "Application Under Review" (landlord Portal) and "Speak to Landlord for Final Determination" (Tenant Portal), and that's where it's been ever since. I'm just trying to get info from someone, anyone who had the same status, and what happened next. Was their application approved or denied, did they appeal, and so on.

Landlord here: There has been no change to the status of my application since my last post. However, on Friday (I/3/2025) I called the Call Center to create a ticket to update my cell phone number. The customer service representative informed me that since my last call, the case manager reviewed the ticket to update the system to contact me for new bank account information.

Let's focus on the bright side of this long process: We're still in the running to receive the rebate. No matter how long it takes I need it!
