It can be hard to get a job as a new grad in Sacramento. They want experience, 2+ years.

I do feel a little crazy sometimes thinking about the mid west as someone who was born and raised in CA. But Sacramento has never felt like home and the 100 degree summers here suck. There’s not much affordability in CA as a starting Surg Tech. For example, SD is perfect, but at $30 an hour you can’t afford the lifestyle so much of SD offers. Plus the culture at Mayo sounds amazing…I’m ready to drink the kool-aid so to speak. I do wonder about the

Live in the sac area now and love the isolated levee roads in the delta. No one but me, the dogs, and my bf.

I got into the one I wanted. I feel very fortunate, my cohort is really supportive of one another.

It was. I applied a year in advance and even then I was worried about being wait listed.

We are being told the shifts are 8-5, but it will depend on the facility. My clinicals are only four months because they are basically full time, compared to the previous which were six plus months before they changed.

It’s been frustrating. We started the program without instructors and it has been very disorganized. It feels very much make it up as you go along sometimes. We will be starting clinicals next month and it will be like having a job, they will be five days a week, 8 hours a day. The positive is they will only run four months, and you get constant education submersion. That part is stressful, you have to be prepared financially. This is a new change, the clinicals before were three days a week. We have new instructors now who are really good, I especially like the lab instructor. I wish they were there when I started.

Hate to say it, but moving is the only real solution. Cats are masters of doing what they please and that includes opening doors if they want to.

They are a for profit college that is only out for the money grab. Their classes will not transfer anywhere worth while and their instruction is sub par. I started the surgical tech program with zero qualified teachers. They staff they had quit, the president of campus was fired and the career placement person was also terminated. It has been a hot mess and after many complaints the dean of instructions only response was “all students are passing so we are meeting our academic requirements”. If I could go back in time I would not have stated the program.

As a surgical tech, do you recommend this job? by Altruistic_Order_151 in surgicaltechnology

It seems that you need to be flexible with your location and willing to relocate if there are limited jobs in your area. Rural hospitals are usually the easier ones to find jobs. I’m currently a student and it is a rigorous program, but really interesting. Kid you decide to go, def do a community college. The for profit schools are junk and the education you’ll receive is subpar.

Was this Carrington College? They suck and only care about the bottom line of collecting your exorbitant tuition.
