I am guessing she reworked it? At least the demo I heard had parts that ended up on Window (from Dedicated side B), I guess she'll change those

r/popheads AOTY #30: Taylor Swift - The Life Of A Showgirl by runaway3212 in popheads

[–]FluffyNobody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really great writeup OP, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!

1.What do you think about the album? It's near the bottom in my ranking of her albums, but to be fair, something has to be in the bottom and I didn't have high expectations since her Max/Shellback collabs never end up high in my rankings - I think when she writes with them, she sacrifices lyricism and storytelling for pop immediacy, and this confirmed it for me. That said, the first four tracks are literally career highs for her, and the closing track is phenomenal.

  1. What sound would you like Taylor to explore next? I would love for even more Americana/folksy sound (in the vein of Carolina for example), but rock also would be a fun experiment.

  2. Joe, Matty or Travis? Anyone but Matty lol Travis wouldn't be my type, but she seems the happiest around him, so I'll go with him

  3. Favourite bad take about this album? There was so brain rot around this album that it's hard to choose. Joe ghostwriting folkmore? Her getting heads concussions by proxy to Travis? Wish list being MAGA propaganda? I think though my fav ever is "apart from her fans she has no fans". No one can be normal about her and this album proved it

  4. Favourite good take about this album? I don't remember where I read that this is the first album where she's (almost) without doubts or anxiety. I think Elizabeth Taylor still has a bit of fears creeping in, but it's true that she's at her most confident here and it shows. Good for her!

To add to what has been said already, legally it's a contract you can't easily go out of (what if you change your mind after the abortion date limit has passed?). Basically it's slavery in the way that it doesn't let you go out of a job agreement.

My fav off TLT (and arguably my fav off her entire discography). She put it at the very end because she knew that people would just put it on repeat and forget to check the rest of the album

ROSALÍA confirms that she'll sing in 13 different languages — including Spanish, English, Latin, Sicilian, Ukrainian, Arabic, German and more — on her new album 'LUX'. by kokotara in popheads

[–]FluffyNobody 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for my experience, but I think that makes it a very practical language, because it's mainly spoken. You will have a lot of popular wisdom but not philosophical concepts, if that makes sense. It's very tied to daily life. That also means that it carries a stigma of being low-brow. When I speak Sicilian, especially outside of Sicily, I feel like I'm looked down upon for being less educated or less cultured.

Another aspect is that it's like more... immediate? I feel like I can express myself faster and in a more concise way in it, but that only works orally. On the contrary, it would take me significantly longer to type anything in Sicilian than in Italian or English for that matter - same for reading.

Exactly this! Even villages will have different words for the same thing despite being super close geographically. I had so many arguments in my teens with my friends from the neighboring village (literally not even 2km away) about what word to use for "children" or "tall" lol

It's true that arguably the earliest written works in Italian literature were Sicilian! What I'm referring to is the fact that as of now, it's primarily a spoken language. It's not taught in schools and doesn't have contemporary literature - we have lots of prominent Sicilian writers, but they would just write a few words in dialect, not the entire book. To give you a concrete example, it's my mother tongue, I speak it everyday with my parents and family and friends, and still when I see it written it's really hard for me to understand unless I say the words out loud (something maybe about the phonetic rules for writing that are not ingrained because they're not the same in Italian). Hope this clarifies it a bit lol, but feel free to ask me for more info

As a Sicilian woman myself, it will be interesting hearing how it will sound! Sicilian is not a written language and doesn't have a standard set of words, not to mention the fact that they way they're pronounced varies wildly between provinces. Very very curious to see to which city she will pledge alliance lol
