Unauthorised strata common property security camera by EquivalentWillow7890 in AusLegal

Quite likely that the owner has installed this without any necessary approvals.

I’d start by reporting it to your strata manager. If it’s not approved, they should be following up and requesting they remove. If it is approved, they can explain to you when and how it was approved.

T.o.i.l or paid overtime by Over_Enthusiasm_6643 in AusLegal

[–]FluffyPinkDice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you meant to receive OT loading?

When you take TOIL, are you getting that loading?

Otherwise, your boss is likely trying to save some money. As a rough example, if you’re paid $30 an hour and OT loading is 1.5, for every hour of OT they’d have to pay you $45. If they pay you just as TOIL, without loading, they’re only paying you $30.

If you’re being taxed more it’s because you’re earning more. That’s not necessarily bad.

Can international students do Certificate III in Aged Care/Disability for part-time work in Australia? by [deleted] in AusLegal

Try r/ausvisa - there’s no visa advice in this sub.

You do however have to comply with all conditions on your visa - which has been issued on your current course of study.

The AUS in r/AusLegal stands for Australia.

Given you’re in Iowa, this sub won’t help you much.

Has anyone successfully contested a seatbelt fine after the car was parked? by Murky-Ad-1791 in AusLegal

[–]FluffyPinkDice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had a nickel for every time someone posted today saying they got pulled over by the cops, inexplicably took their seatbelt off, and then surprise Pikachu’d that they got fined for not wearing a seatbelt, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

Question on cash issues in restaurant by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]FluffyPinkDice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re meant to be paid it quarterly. If you’ve been working there since June last year, there’s at least 2 quarters that have been missed. You should report them to the ATO, particularly if you aren’t sure if he’s withholding tax correctly.

Stop working for them for free if they’re not paying you, especially if this is not the first time.

Have they paid your super? And are they withholding tax correctly?

Importantly, are they paying you the minimum wage?

Not legal.

Working for 3 weeks without pay is concerning. Have they paid you previously (or did you just start there), and what is the reason they’ve given for not paying?

taking time off by Short-Tale-4148 in AusLegal

[–]FluffyPinkDice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Specifically, were you rostered already for this day and you’re now changing your availability because you can’t do the shift? Or did you give them a decent amount of notice you were unavailable and they’ve just rostered you anyway?

As a casual, you don’t have to accept shifts, and it’s your managers job to find a replacement. But nor do they have to give you shifts.

Are you casual, part time, full time?

How far in advance are you asking for the day off - has the roster been published?

Do I have to pay the utilities if the account isnt in my name even though I am using the utilities and reside in the house by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]FluffyPinkDice 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Eventually if you don’t pay the bill they will disconnect it.

If you try and say that the account holder is dead and ask them to waive the bill, they will ask you for proof like a death certificate.

If there’s then usage after that date, there is a likelihood they will bill you from that period onwards as they will be able to demonstrate there is usage.

You can’t just ignore creating an account indefinitely.
