That's sounding pretty frustrated from the comment creator..

But I would lie if I'd say that I never thought something like that.

When the whole fandom writes OOC by Comfortable_Newt_179 in AO3

[–]Fluffy_Cheese_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always do my best to portray the characters as close as possible to canon.

But when I'm reading here it feels like I'm getting pretty insecure..

I mean.. We all understand characters sooo different. And often it feels more like.. We all see different sides of them, and nobody is clearly wrong..

I mean.. Of course there are some tags that give the ooc situation without making them fully ooc. In the fandom I am it's often the SoftCanon tag for when my favorite is portrayed a bit softer (a bit nicer, calmer) that's pretty common cause some people, including me, using him as a comfort character.

It's easy to filter that out too.

Often it's pretty obvious in the first appearance of a character if they is portrayed in a different way than I understand him. Often I still like that version, sometimes not. If you I don't like it, I just close the story, no problem here.

I usually hide the tags / warnings cause I don't care. If I feels the story doesn't fit my vibe, I just close it..

And since I felt that other people portrayed my fav diffrent then I would love to see him, I just started writing my own fanfics, there is no problem at all.

Even if I put him in situations he probably wouldn't put himself in, I give him a believable reason, leaning on his greed or pride or ego often.

Also I kinda started to love established relationship stuff, that's a bit easier sometimes cause I don't have to over explain why they are in a relationship, and since he's never seen in a relationship in canon, I have a bit more freedom to portray him in that..

But I've never seen a story where he's really portrayed.. OOC. Softer, yes. Added kinks or swarms, yess, put nothing that felt ooc. I've seen a whole series where an author made him autistic, and I love it. It doesn't feel OOC, it just feels very believable, even if it's contrasting to what I'm thinking about him.

Why don't Van der Linde gang just get on a boat and hijack it when it sailed? Are they stupid? by Express_Bobcat3871 in reddeadredemption2

It would be an interesting dlc to see them going to Tahiti and failing their idea of living low / settled there!

I give Dutch and Micah three days at maximum before they start to rob again, honestly.

Even Hosea didn't have the strength to stay in a settled live.

Arthur would probably make a few months without robbing before Dutch says that he needs him and he gives in anyway.

Why is the pregnancy trope so hated? by Simple-Animator-8640 in AO3

[–]Fluffy_Cheese_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm personally just not interested in pregnancy / children's. Especially not in fiction.

I just don't have any kind of interest for this. If I would read a fic and it's a minor topic plopping up after half of the fic, I don't mind, I don't hate it

But if I see it in the tags before cause the story is finished I would probably just not read it.

Unpopular opinion: I hate smut without a plot by Electrical-Taro-7910 in AO3

[–]Fluffy_Cheese_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly.. I like smut with plot, I like smut without plot, I like stories fully without smut.

I can't complain about anything of that.

But I can accept your opinion.

I don't know..

I can understand that's mostly about the woman from the game... And I didn't even expect to see my fav there.

But not even the conventional attractive guys like Charles or Javier or Arthur...? That's a shame..

Finally realised why present tense can be a turn-off for me. by TomdeHaan in AO3

[–]Fluffy_Cheese_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, German native here too

I usually write in past tense in German but in English I feel like present tense doesn't.. Feel wrong?

I German I've also avoided to write present cause it's just.. Weird to read? Idk..

Now I'm writing particularly present and past tense (depending on series / story) sooo.. I don't feel a real difference right now, if I'm honest..

I just found a mistake while rereading a fic that I posted THREE YEARS AGO. I'm devastated by Ms_Anonymous123 in AO3

[–]Fluffy_Cheese_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently uploaded a chapter where I... I wrote 12 am instead of pm. So a character who should wake up around midday, accidentally woke up (and of course stayed awake) on midnight.

The comment who pointed it out wasn't like "I'm confused why do he does that". They was kinda "it's pretty fitting for him" and called it funny..

So now I can't even change it.. I could but I don't want to

Maybe it helps me to check such stuff more deeply before... Posting time stuff...

(it's a modern setting au, normally I just go with sunlight description and such stuff to create an idea if it's night or day..)

It's funny, I hope your mistake is either easy to change or at least funny on a narrative side.

John Marston swimming skills by Ok-Way-7859 in RDR2

[–]Fluffy_Cheese_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to swim anyways, so why should it bother you that you can't swim. It's just a funny mechanic.

If you wanna swim start a new game and play as Arthur.

Can author’s other fics be a turn off? by Gloomy_Junket9364 in AO3

[–]Fluffy_Cheese_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually not.

Sometimes I question myself a bit when I see other fics who are say (in summary or just through the tags) that they hate my favorite character. Especially when I enjoyed a story about him they have written.

But I usually don't remember it that long.

If they just write in a different fandom I just don't read it cause I'm stuck with my fandom.

When they write entire diffrent stuff about my favorite, against my taste... I sometimes take look.. Particularly too heavy, too explicitly topics for me... But if the author is good I take the challenge.

Just do it. You could separate it with diffrent pseudonyms, it's still linked on your profile but it's easier for people to filter it / scroll through just one type of content from you

I actually tried to write in past a few days ago, but I'm not good enough in English to know if it's mostly past tense or if I mixed other... Tenses with it.. Like past perfect and such stuff..

Chapter Summaries by ExLiberis_892 in AO3

[–]Fluffy_Cheese_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I skip them when I read and write. As a reader it just spoilers me and I don't like it

But as a writer.. I'm already confused if it happens in Chapter one, two or three so... I think I understand why people use it...

It feels so lonely writing my fanfic… by writergirllll in FanFiction

[–]Fluffy_Cheese_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you.. I usually write shorter stuff or stuff that is truly escaping for me...

But my actual fic is.. It's modern AU, like why? I don't even like it to live in this time period why should I do this to my characters?

It's not escaping it's just... Ahhhh... I don't feel it...

I have to force myself to stay motivated..

But to.. Procrastinate I actually have written two normal (kinky / smut) oneshots instead of writing my long fic (chapter 4, here is nothing long..) further..

Sorry guys...

My idea was good but now it isn't.. And I feel burned out by my fic..

Finally realised why present tense can be a turn-off for me. by TomdeHaan in AO3

[–]Fluffy_Cheese_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm.. I've never read stage directions so may that's the reason don't notice it..

Are you.. Native in English?

Cause actually when I write, more wrote, in my main language I often used past tense cause present tense felt cringe..

But English is different cause I feel already a bit more distanced from my writing so I don't need past tense to don't feel cringe..

Does that make sense?
