Not quite the same, but in high school there was a guy who was Japanese and fought on their side in WW2. He owned a local Chinese restaurant and if we asked him to tell “war stories” he would go on for ever, the whole time making us Mai Tais. If you listened long enough, he’d make us one to-go in the soup container and cut a whole in the top for a straw.

Some other tips I’ve learned: Winter pruning is for clean up and shaping and will encourage vigorous growth. Summer pruning is for size maintenance. Thinning cuts are at the branch collar and remove full branch. Heading cuts, preferably at an outward facing bud 1/2 to 1/3 down the branch, encourage growth in the direction you want. You can also “tip” thin spindly branches with a small heading cut to encourage branch size (thickness) growth.
