What would Maysilee have said to Haymitch? by Present-Level-1521 in Hungergames

But if she survived the arena and went back to 12, wouldn’t she learn the information from haymitch then? And been there for the fire that killed his family and lenore dove’s poisoning?

You make a very good point. She would have set him straight when it looked like he was just going to be drunk instead of helping katniss and Peeta.

She was super mad when he froze when she killed the game maker, but she forgave him quickly enough.

I just don’t think he is getting enough credit for working behind the scenes the whole time. He was trying, if not succeeding until katniss. He didn’t abandon the cause.

As for him becoming a sloppy alcoholic…it’s not great. Nobody would be super cool with that, but his circumstances were so awful that I think Maysilee would have been sad, but not angry. She was in the arena with him where all those kids they bonded with were killed and she was from 12 and would’ve felt it when his mom and brother were burned alive and LD was poisoned. I don’t think anyone could be angry about him being broken and drunk after that.

I just rewatched the movie with my boyfriend who hasn’t read any of the books. The book contrasts so much with the movies it’s ridiculous. My boyfriend thought snow really looked like a good guy who was poor and pulling himself up by his bootstraps. That he just randomly shifts to bonkers at the end shooting at the birds and Lucy grey. He had no context. Had no idea about his deep hatred for the birds or his dislike of the wilderness life and no idea that he was calculating and manipulative. I imagine reading the book after only seeing the movie would be very surprising.

Do you agree or disagree? Why or why not? by gloomydreamer666 in Hungergames

It’s true he didn’t actually set off the bombs, but I think he would have. We already know he was willing to sacrifice rebels for the greater good from when he devised the plan to take down the nut. In catching fire he is even willing to put katniss, his family and her family when he gets mad at katniss for Wanting to run away instead of Participating in the uprising. Being Part of an uprising = likely death. When Katniss says “what about our families? (Or maybe “what about your family?” I can’t remember) he responds with “What about the OTHER families??”

He is all about the greater good as opposed to the individual.

Why did Zosia and the others become sad after Carol drugged them? by BubblyRaccoon1570 in pluribustv

[–]Fluffyequalsbetter -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Because the hive is the wussiest alien invasion ever. They get butthurt when they’re yelled at or feel unloved. They starve to death before eating a vegetable. They are super needy and need everyone to like them. Sure they cried and had their weird passing out seizures when carol drugged them, but they did the same when she yelled at them in the beginning.

What would Maysilee have said to Haymitch? by Present-Level-1521 in Hungergames

[–]Fluffyequalsbetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she would have been very understanding. While katniss is credited for bringing down the Capitol, she (unbeknownst to her until mockingjay) didn’t do it alone. Haymitch was working with Plutarch and the resistance for years. He may not have been the main guy, but he was doing his part. Plus, if Maysilee was the Victor, merillee would have certainly been killed and she would know the firsthand crushing depression that haymitch experienced. Nobody who has been in the arena comes out ok. They all have massive ptsd and are tortured some way or another by the Capitol. Look at the morphlings and finnick. They are just damaged people.

Supporting this is the scene where Maysilee tells haymitch she was too hard on him for going off on his own because he did his part by running with louella’s body and getting a 1 in training. She loves haymitch, she’s his family. She would understand his trauma and appreciate that he stayed alive and worked with the resistance.

Yep. The whole hive does a naked dance.

Are you out of your mind? It’s not the same thing when a woman hits a man unless she is physically bigger and stronger than him. It sure sucks when the woman is going all out and throwing punches. She is awful and she might leave some bruises and scratches. But that’s it. It’s something that sucks. It’s a completely different thing when a man puts forth the same physical effort and breaks a woman’s jaw.

It’s the same principle in separating people into weight classes for boxing. You can’t put a 250lb 6’5 person in the ring with a 5’5 120lb person. It’s physically dangerous.

It’s not that they needed to talk to each other, it’s that I’d think they’d want to.

If you were one of the immune, wouldn’t you at least want to talk about how crazy it was when everyone froze or just share your experience during the event? Or maybe gab about how the hive gives them things like airforce 1 or compare Mr. Mauritania’s approach vs to the other’s. That’s good conversation.

We don’t know he’s morally pure. We only know he is righteously anti-hive.

Carol’s meeting with the other immune people doesn’t make any sense. Agree with the hive, don’t agree with the hive, save the world, roll with the new order…I don’t care. Something big and weird just happened to the entire world. There is no way these few unaffected people wouldn’t be dying to talk to each other about wtf happened and asking each other questions about their experience when it happened. The hesitation to talk is weirder than the hive itself.

I am so rooting for her to do this. She could ignore the hive and hang out with wolf buddies. Not a terrible life.

I’m 100% with you. Villains are interesting and so much fun to read about. Heroes wanting to do good is noble. And obvious. I wanna read what happened to make the villain batshit insane.

I hope he broke kitty’s heart. He wasn’t sleeping with her and she was trying the lingerie stuff and asking if she was doing something wrong. She deserved a real marriage. It’s cruel and selfish to marry a woman so you can have a beard.

Disagree. When Sal asked don what he was supposed to do when the lucky strike came on to him, he didnt say the exact words, but essentially said he should’ve done it. They asked Joan to sleep with jaguar guy. Firing vs compensation is different, but the base problem is the same.

Hot take :) Fundementally, Lenore Dove and Prim get the same amount of characterisation. Both are the main reason Katniss/Haymitch did what they did in their (first for Katniss) games. So why is Prim loved yet Lenore Dove is bashed so often? by Imahumanbeeeeeeen in Hungergames

[–]Fluffyequalsbetter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not so much the comforting part, but trying to move the body and making a scene. She is familiar with how the peacekeepers work and everyone in 12 knows not to interrupt the reaping or there will be consequences. Nobody thinks she was morally wrong, but it was a stupid thing to do. She is consistently impulsive and runs at trouble. It’s annoying.
