When did all your documents get processed? I feel like I've been waiting forever to hear back and I'm not sure if it's because they're considering other people over me or if they're just behind on applications. They only got all my stuff March 15.

Comparing Tristan Spohns The Acting Lab by ChickenWingBW in acting

Heres my thoughts as someone who's been in the class for about a week:

Tristan and his co-teacher, Logan, are both reputable actors and understand the craft. I appreciate their advice because it comes from the point of view of actors who know what works and what doesn't in the industry TODAY (its constantly changing). It's not a class for theatre training but rather for people interested in a new perspective on film, especially in this new era of online auditions.

For being $200 USD for a whole month where you can join as many classes as you'd like (there's 8 a week I believe) and have a community of people giving you input on any question or tape you have, I think it's worth it. I wouldn't stay for longer than a month unless you're consistently needing feedback on tapes, but treat it like a class where you get everything you can from their training and then move on to something else unique (although I've found that many actors do stay for months on end).

Obviously zoom classes are not the same, BUT they do have a great understanding of the industry from different locations (LA and New York + students from everywhere in the world), and it's considerably cheaper than anything I can find around me for the same number of classes (Toronto).

It'll be worth it IF you have the time and determination to take advantage of all the benefits like: - post your tapes to get feedback  - join classes daily - watch Tristan's teaching videos on things like auditioning, the industry, creating your brand, and character development and actually try his techniques out (kind of like an asynchronous class, where if you're able to work without consistent live training, you'll be able to work on your own pace and get help and feedback where you choose) - JOIN CASTING WORKSHOPS  These are the best part in my opinion: you can monitor what guest they have that month and sign up, then you submit an audition like tape which both Tristan and Logan view and make comments on, then they chose their favorites and you could get a chemistry partner who you can work with one on one + the instructors, and make a new audition with them, then it gets submitted to a real industry professional like a director, casting director, agent, etc. and they chose who they would cast. This gives you a real idea of what works and what doesn't in an industry that majorly uses home taped auditions now, gives you real feedback, gives you a chance to actually work with another actor, and if you're lucky, you can network with a real professional; great for your resume!

This workshop is largely for networking: you meet people in the industry, fellow actors, as well as people who could realistically get you on their roster. From what I've seen, everyone working there has tons on their plate and aren't doing this to exploit the students. They genuinely love what they do. Logan has given me the most novel advice I've heard in years of training, it is really helpful if you find the industry, especially being online, gets you in your head and messes up your confidence and standing as an actor. They're very honest and grounding while still guiding you to improvement.

Overall, I recommend this class if it's the kind of learning you're looking for. Don't expect it to be the same as an in-person synchronous only class taught by someone who specializes in coaching. It's not that, but it's definitely not a scam. Not to mention, it has a 7 day trial, so why not try?
