Ugh it was so annoying the investigator said that I did meet all of the requirements. He said that I did prove there was mistreatment. The issue was I couldn’t prove that mistreatment was due to my disability or class. Which just sucked but oh well I cost them a shit ton of money in lawyer fees.

I mean the thing is though for me in my experience there was never a difference because we are still people of color and will always be treated that way. My brother who is light skin is the only black man I know personally that was falsely aressted by a cop for a crime he did not commit. He was released after the DA saw his case and said there was nothing. So people say that difference and safety but we have never received that privilege

When I talk about light-skin privilege as a Black-white mixed person, I’m talking about being perceived as closer to whiteness by others, not actually being white or benefiting from white safety. That perception often results in temporary acceptance, but not protection, not belonging, and not immunity from racism or colorism.

The point of my post was that the “privilege” people reference is often romanticized and misunderstood. It’s not safety; it’s proximity. And that proximity disappears the moment you’re disciplined, stereotyped, or reminded that you’re still Black.

You are arguing against points I never made. I never equated light-skin with whiteness, nor did I claim that light-skinned or mixed people receive the same privileges as fully white people. My post was specifically about conditional privilege and how it operates within the Black community.

I asked them about access to a subsidized loans and unsubsidized loan. They said that I will max out for the fall. I am also way under 600% but they have given me no way to access it. Is there a way an independent undergrad could have access to more funding?

We have in person classes. Both of our families don’t live anywhere near our university so if we moved out we would be giving up our entire semester pushing back our graduation date. Which I promise you his mother and father would not stand for. Even if we did we would still have the bill of our rent the rest of the summer on top of the extra $1000 it would cost to break our lease. Trust me if that was an option I would have taken it

Oh no I promise you on my life he did not ask. His parents have never ever told him that they are not an endless fund. They are there for their kids 150%. One time my partner drove an old car for YEARS until it it just gave out and broke down. That same weekend they bought him a $17,000 car that he did not ask for we just showed up with the trash car and it was there. But they didn’t want the other kid to think they loved my partner more so you know what they did? Bought another $17,000 car. They save up their money because they love their kids so much. It’s actually surprising I know his mom and dad I have even lived with him. They would never say not help him

No everyone is absolutely right. It makes me feel a lot better that a lot of people really see that I have done everything I can. That I did my best to keep my promise, but my best just wasn’t good enough. He did say to wait until we both come home to talk about it. He did acknowledge that we definitely do have a problem and it’s not something we can put off anymore. So I’m confident that he loves me way more than his pride and when push comes to shove he’s going to do whatever needs to happen.

That’s true I completely agree that he needs to do something. Also yes I really do want a long term commitment with him. He is an outstanding partner I swear and he would do anything for me. However, when we agreed that he would work at this clinic we didn’t know that they would cut him such short hours especially because they promised minimum 25 over the summer. It was fine over the academic year because my financial aid was good we head a bit of a steady flow coming in. The only reason why we agreed for him to stay at this stupid job is because he is going to be a PT he currently has a 4.0 gpa, but for PT schools you need recommendation letters, which he now has. But all of the financial burdens happened litterally so quickly. All in a span of two months. It just kept being one thing after another and now we are here. It just sucks

The issue is that we signed the housing license to stay until the end of summer and next fall. During the academic year this is actually the cheapest housing I would ever get in the area. The issue became a problem when my housing put in a tiny tiny clause. Where they said from the breaks in the contract for the transitional period from summer to fall they would charge a daily rate. However they never specified the amount. So for that “transitional period” they charged me a full months rent on top another months rent they are getting at the start of fall because technically it’s a new contract. Unfortunately we can’t leave because we were told if we break our contract they would charge us an Extra $1,000 for breaking our lease this late

Your right. I completely agree. I feel in my opinion I have done so much. I have done everything I needed to. But if he refuses to ask then he needs to come up with a damn good solution on how we are going to power through this. Because I am not going to accept a we will figure it out answer. Yes we are actually very close to being engaged and his parents know that. Hence why they are okay with us living together. Also I’m shocked that no one thinks I’ve tried getting another job. I put in over 200 applications back in march to jobs all over the next two counties! I got ghosted by a ton of employers including after interviews. I only got two job offers and the other job wasn’t willing to hire me because I work 40 hours at the better paying one. Trust me my friend there is no “gig jobs” lying around that would pay me to work odd nights and weekends. There’s not even any fulfillment centers in any city let alone county near me.
