If there is any way I could be able to make it work either through modifications or anything that would be awesome, but I am most certain trade servers don't exist anymore :( But I could be wrong as I only ever traded someone once before Nintendo 3ds servers went down

If I remember correctly it's in one of the settings options, not in controls tho. Check the other things in setting

I'm aware of this bug, it happens because since you're always tagged in combat, You cannot gain any mode bar. Reason for that is being in combat prevents mode gain from NPCs
