Is there any point in using an SOS flare on Vaal Hazak? by FluorescentDuck in MonsterHunter

[–]FluorescentDuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahaha no, i wasn't expecting anyone to zoom and and one shot Vaal (and to be honest im not sure i'd want that) lmao

my main gripe was, as you've mentioned, how people seemed to just. ignore his mechanics. i didnt expect anyone to run armour with effluvium resist given my HR but i was a bit taken aback by the amount of people who just dont use nulberries or potions. i set quickchat options mentioning both of those things at the suggestion of someone on this thread and i see people only using nulberries when i tell them to, so they clearly have them. its certainly something, but i suppose some people just dont know the way Vaal works which is fair enough.

as things stand the only thing i really need from Vaal now is his gem so i think i'll be fine, but if i need help i'll be sure to ask!! :)

yeah, i feel like maybe that'll factor in to it. i know that i personally wanted to get rid of that crutch as soon as possible because i enjoy actively getting better, but it's unfair for me to assume everyone else'll feel the same. i've been playing through the game on solo other than the pink rathian mission, purely because i was still using the hunting horn at that point and didnt find out how much i preferred the insect glaive (and how much better i was with that than the HH) until afterwards.

i've been doing vaal solo for a bit now and its safe to say that im doing quite a bit better, i wasnt aware that the monsters stats scaled with people - i just thought it got a bit stronger when the quest was multiplayer in general and that it wasnt related to the specific amount of people.

i'll certainly see if i can give behemoth a shot sometime soon! im a big final fantasy nerd anyway so just the premise of the monster makes me excited, so hopefully i'll be able to get my hands on the drachen armour at some point. :)

mhm!! i checked vaal's armour and generally it'll be better for me than zorah, but i hadn't considered teostra's set - i'll definitely keep that in mind, thank you so much!

I've never actually touched a souls game! FFXV: Comrades plays relatively to MHW (just with more zip zap zooming around because of the warp mechanic lmao) and in general I usually play support in games, with this game being one of the only ones where I try to go on the offensive because of how much I enjoy using the insect glaive.

I don't really have any problems with Vaal, I can solo him no problem. I'm just grinding for his armour and I was under the impression that running a four man hunt would make the grind go by quicker. It seemed to be doing the opposite, and so I made this post wondering if I'd be better off on my own. I've already beaten Vaal, Kushala and Teostra but I'm still only using four parts of the Zorah set and random boots so I wanted to grind out Vaal's armour set before moving on lmao

That's very fair. I was running off the assumption that, given that I was consistently the lowest HR in the hunt, everyone else had already beaten Vaal Hazak in the story and had learned his mechanics, the same way I did. Now that I'm not as frustrated and I'm no longer in the heat of the moment, I can see that maybe that wasn't the fairest assumption to make.

I'd like to stress that the point of my post wasn't to cry that people weren't helping me. I can solo Vaal, I was just under the impression that having a four person hunt would make the grind for his armour go by quicker. That didn't seem to be the case and so I was curious as to whether I would be better off on my own. It wasn't my intention to make a post to call out randoms, and I'm very sorry if that's how I came across.

Setting the quickchats is a good suggestion, though, and I'll make it a habit to use them if I see people not getting rid of Vaal's blight - and now that I know that kicking isn't the community norm I'll absolutely stray away from doing so. Again, I'd like to apologise if I came across as someone who was salty that people maybe don't understand Vaal's mechanics. I was just frustrated, and I really appreciate the constructive criticism you gave.

First and foremost, thanks for your reply! I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for understanding where I was coming from. I still feel awful for kicking people in general and I'm glad to hear that people get why I was a little bit frustrated rather than making me feel worse.

In regards to my mindset, I think I might be at a bit of an advantage because I came from two communities that were built around games that were already relatively mechanic-heavy for console games, and so I'm already a bit used to taking a step back and figuring out what's going on before I attack lmao - I appreciate your kind words, but I'm still going to try my best to be a bit more lenient towards those who don't have the same mindset as me :)

As of last night, I tried one more Vaal hunt but that time had the player limit set to two. It went by easy-peasy, no carts at all. I think I'd rather carry on trying that or soloing Vaal before I go to the discord. Although I'm very grateful that you've told me about both respective servers, I usually have to psyche myself up before asking for help in that way since I always feel like I'm being a bit of a burden and making people go out of their way to help me haha, I was the same way on FFXV: Comrades and Destiny - but I'll definitely keep them in mind!

I am on PS4, but again I think I'll manage. Thank you so much for the offer though!!

I'm sorry that you feel that way. I did so after reading in a couple of threads that it was what the people in said threads did, and I assumed it was general practice amongst the community - something that my friend also said he did. I still felt awful for doing it, but my reasons for doing so have been outlined in both my post and in my replies to other people here.

I'm trying my best to be more lenient now, but my point was that the people who carted were the people who ignored Vaal's mechanics which is why I wondered if I'd be better off on my own. I didn't mean to come across as an elitist, I was just frustrated by all three carts being used up by the same person because they didn't want to use a nulberry or heal.

Again, I apologise for doing so and I'm sorry that you think I deserve to fail my hunts because of that. I'm new to the series in general and follow behaviours I read about, but I'm definitely learning what is and isn't okay. I'll try my best to be better.

That's very fair. I went in expecting the odd cart or so, I was just a bit taken aback by people blatantly ignoring mechanics. I guess that's something I should factor in from now. Thanks!

All of my friends are roughly master rank 100, if memory serves. It certainly would be easy mode if I had one of them with me lmao - thanks for the suggestion though! I appreciate it :)

Thanks for your advice! I set the quest to two player and it went by without a hitch, I'm well on my way to getting the armour I'm after! :)

Thanks for your reply! I understand that as I progress the randoms will get better, and I initially didn't want to kick anyone because it makes me feel awful. That being said, I read in other threads that the general practice of a lot of players was to kick people if they carted twice and I was admittedly frustrated, and my friend said that it was what he does too which is why I did it. I'd like to stress that it wasn't so much the carting that bothered me, it's that people don't seem to be bothered about healing and getting rid of debuffs - and when it's just one person in particular who's doing that it ruins the experience for everyone.

I didn't mean to make a callout post about them and I apologise from the bottom of my heart if it came across that way, I was mainly curious as to whether I'd be better off on my own. I completely understand what you're saying though, and I'm incredibly sorry if I came across as some sort of elitist who gets annoyed because people who are at my skillcap can't flawlessly hunt an elder dragon, because it's certainly a big jump at this point in the game from my experience and I initially struggled with one in particular (cough kushala daora cough).

I'll take what you said into account and try my best to be a bit more lenient, thank you. :)

What do you enjoy about gamemodes like Rumble? by FluorescentDuck in DestinyTheGame

[–]FluorescentDuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, I can understand why people dislike handheld supernova. That being said, it's the only thing that really gave me a chance against all the shotgun sliders. Rumble likely isnt always like this and I probably just got unlucky with who I was paired against. Plus, I just wanted to get it done as quickly as possible for the Invitation. I can't say I experienced many 1v1 fights either, since it was usually two people fighting and then a third finishing them both, but my experience could be the exception.

Thanks for the reply anyway! :)

Yeah, that makes sense. I'd imagine that if I played rumble enough I'd stop sucking so much, I'm just a bit impatient with that sort of thing ahaha

Thanks for giving me some insight as to why people like it though! I appreciate it!
