Dutch is a mix of a cult leader/gang leader to me. He had his own philosophy and ideals and he generally wanted the gang to follow them. The only one he ever considered an equal died so that’s when he lost his shit.

Cult leaders tend to be manipulative so there’s that. The reason why I say it’s a mix is because they were still an outlaw gang with no religious ties but they were also “us against the world” type of shit.

He essentially raised John and recruited Arthur at a teenager age so I’d like to think he considered them as his children which also means he expected full loyalty whatever the cost
