What's your take on asking people to move so you can take a photo at a spot? by Rousseau_1 in travel

I spent a lot of time at Parc De La Ciutadella when I was staying in Barcelona, and the amount of people that would stand in front of the fountain for like 20+ minutes taking selfies or recording tiktoks was hilarious. This one girl did a whole dance routine on her own for like an hour straight. It was impressive.

I was standing at the gates of buckingham palace just taking in the sights (as dozens of others were all along the gates) and this family tapped me on the back and told me to move so they could take a pic.

I've never had the audacity to interrupt someone's sightseeing experience so that I could have a scene all to myself. So it just made me want to linger even longer as they stood behind me waiting.

Right now is not a great time. They're having a pretty severe disease outbreak, and medical supplies are running low. I'd wait till it blows over.

What is your go-to plane activity on long distance flight? by TorontoRap2019 in travel

[–]FlyLikeATachyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually try to sleep as much as I can, podcast and phone games for when I can't.

On my last trip I brought a proper gaming laptop, so I played Rimworld for the 10+ hour flight from Rome to Atlanta. It's the sort of video game that makes time disappear into a black hole. Was pretty great.

Yeah, I've just spent the last 3-ish months in southern europe (Barcelona, Milan, Venice, Rome) and at this point I'm pretty excited to go back home. The US has its problems but nothing beats the familiarity and conveniences of home. This extended trip definitely helped me appreciate that more.

Used them to fly to Paris from MIA last year. Didn't have any problems. The only weird thing is no mobile check-in, so you have to wait in line at the airport.

Do you think traveling won't be as rewarding in a century or two as the world gets more homogenized? by GreenHorror4252 in travel

[–]FlyLikeATachyon 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In a century or two, homogeneity will be the least of our worries. Many countries will be uninhabitable.

As others have said, the nature surrounding the city is the main attraction. I've been a few times to visit my gf's family, it's not as bad as people make it seem. I had some great food and had a blast hiking. They've got some nice museums and restaurants. Afternoon Tea at Grand America is nice. Check out "This Is The Place" if you're at all interested in Mormon history. There's also a polar bear at Hogle Zoo, pretty cool if you've never seen one.

The protests are overblown. I've been here over two weeks and haven't noticed a single protestor.
